The Magic of Dusk - Magic The Gathering inspired setting.

I will probably post an updated version of the lists this evening. I'm closing in on having all the colors have the same number of spells. Why is this important? Class balance - specifically, color replaces the class lists. Bards pick spells from the Blue and Green lists. Their class...

How much damage to a single target is fair at 3rd level?

Blight is a originally a druid spell. It also uses a con save, which isn't subject to being evaded. As far as I have seen, nothing has damage resistance to necrotic damage. But at the end of the day, it's a druid spell and in 3rd edition it would be put at 3rd level for the arcane classes...

How much damage to a single target is fair at 3rd level?

head is a typo ( post edited ). Shunran is the adjective form of Shunra, which is the plane in the setting that powers these sorts of spells.

How much damage to a single target is fair at 3rd level?

Consider this... Incinerate 3rd level shunran evocation Casting time: 1 action Range: 120’ Components: V, S, M ( a piece of obsidian less than one year old ) Duration: Instantaneous An orb of lava forms in you hand which you direct to a creature which it then immolates dealing 8d8 fire damage...

Updated the starting post in the thread and added three more spells. If I don't get any input though, I will cease further posting.

    D&D 5E Warlock/Cleric Best of all Worlds

The "fluff" on both the classes makes it pretty clear that their magical abilities are outsourced. Combining the classes requires ignoring that background. Mechanically it will work, the game is written that way so the DM can freely change the fluff around. But the default assumptions of the...

    D&D 5E Warlock/Cleric Best of all Worlds

Not happening in my game, and I'd imagine most games. Gods are very jealous beings.

    D&D 5E I have something... THE TARRASQUE!

To save space most likely. Surely the sphinx isn't the only monster with that attribute.

    D&D 5E Warlock/Cleric Best of all Worlds

One major problem. clerics receive spells from gods who do want their cleric's patronage. Warlocks receive their powers from entities who likewise want their patronage. Thematically it does not work. Trying to make it work requires proceeding in defiance of the very flavor of both the...

    D&D 5E I have something... THE TARRASQUE!

Both the sphinx and tarrasque require magical weapons to hit. In previous editions there was a global rule stating that creatures requiring magic to be damaged could damage other creatures with that same resistance property. I would be surprised if that rule wasn't in 5e.

Dusk 5e spells - The conversion begins.

Those with Facebook can find the Pathfinder iterations here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/455577807825539/files/ There's nearly 600 spells in that book. Not all of them will make it. Everything in this thread should be considered a draft. Let's start with a pair of Blue's spells...

5e: Scoring up alignment, Spell Fragments

So now that I have a PHB and have read through the classes section I can put some more thought into this. Here's the color associations of classes. Abora (Green): Druid, Ranger Given that this alignment is nature themed, it should be no surprise to find the two nature classes attached to it...

    D&D 5E I have something... THE TARRASQUE!

This shorthand to create an exciting and engaging game and is no worse than turn based structure. The only alternative is cost the various actions in the style of weapon speeds and casting times. I'm considering doing such a writeup for 5e, but with the major caveat that initiative would then...

    D&D 5E I have something... THE TARRASQUE!

Please work on your comprehension of terms before using them. A "gameist rule" is one that defies reality for game reasons, especially in a way that breaks the player's sense of disbelief. The best example is 4e's cube shaped fireball spells. Turn structure is a game structure to begin with...

D&D 5E Necromancer, now Goodman, is there a 5e OGL the general public doesn't know about?

Goodman's adventures are likely safe. Necromancer's monsters however... I find it curious.

D&D 5E Necromancer, now Goodman, is there a 5e OGL the general public doesn't know about?

It just seems a bit odd to see these unofficial 5e products popping up without any guarantee that there will be any sort of OGL license. How does that work? Or is a C&D on the way?

    I loved "Lucy" SPOILERS!

<joking>Considering the kinds of people getting elected by the general public, that may well be in progress :] That or TV does indeed rot the brain.</joking>

D&D 5E What are you going to keep from previous editions/other d20 games?

I'll be keeping my own alignment system in some form, and if I keep the spells in the book I will be assigning a color to each of them. The first layer of new spells will be the ones that interact with other spells based on their color. But I might just write my own spell chapter this time to...
