D&D 5E Determine encounter difficulty with monsters of very different CRs

Ok, so when building encounter with vastly different CRs, I should not factor the lowest ones in the multiplication if and only if they really don't bring something significant at the table. I was planning 5 drows, so with a couple of faerie fires and three of them shooting from the dark, the...

How could I miss that bit? I'm an idiot. Anyway, thanks a lot! :)

D&D 5E Determine encounter difficulty with monsters of very different CRs

Hi guys! I don't know if there's another thread about the same topic, so sorry if there is one already. We rebooted our campaign, and now we have a 6 men party of level 5 (I never had such such a large and powerful group before with next!). Checking the encounter difficulty table, I was...

    Arcane Power excerpt: Cosmic Magic

the fact is, we have two arcane strikers; making their primary ability scores the same for one build or another (cha-int/con), would be too much redundant. For the new sorcerer builds, I wished cha/wis, in a sort of divine flavour (divine bloodline or something else), and why not, cosmic magic...

Dwarves make as good/better primal characters than elves.

I never said that now elves make better clerics than dwarves or viceversa. I said... what I said: dwarves are better druids and shamans than clerics, and it's obviously a restyle of this race. I have not said that they make weak clerics, but certanly they make much stronger druids or shamans...

Dwarves make as good/better primal characters than elves.

Mhhh. Dwarves make better shamans than clerics, better druids than paladins. I think this is the "problem" here. This is simply a change in the classic design of dwarves.

Dwarves make as good/better primal characters than elves.

just to be in topic, I my games I will allow switching int with dex for stalker spirit shamans, simply making them perfect for elves (and making a more credible concept of shaman); so, an elf has a more general aptitude in primal classes. And yes, a dwarf can be one of the best races for the...

Making Things Harder on my Party

they do not have controllers, so go with a lot of minions and lower level monsters every combat instead of about 6 same level monsters.

    two-handed weapons damage

I think fighters do not get bonus for weapon talent if they have chosen 2h weapons and then use a 1h versatile weapon with both hands. The bonus regards the weapon's type, not how it's wielded. Anyway, yes, I did not think about the multiple dice damage for powers, this is the big difference...

    two-handed weapons damage

sorry if this is a stupid question, and sorry if already exists a topic about it, but I'm a bit confused :s do two-handed weapons deal 1 extra damage, like one-handed versatile weapons when wielded in two hands? If the answer is no, I have another question: what differences there are between...

    Collected Core Handbook Errata

DMG, page 188, rogue class features: "rogue weapon mastery" is wrong, the right name is "rogue weapon talent".

Level 1 hard encounter: white or black young dragon?

yeah I was working on the adventure when I realized that the "perfect 1st level dungeon" is filled with minion, skirmisher, slinger and wyrmpriest kobolds, along with some drakes, a young white dragon and various traps. But... this is the basic adventure in the DMG! So, I will use it, a little...

Level 1 hard encounter: white or black young dragon?

thank you all for the answers :) then, no black dragons for my group next week. I thought I can modify the black dragon and lower its level, but since this my first time with 4th ed., it's better to not twist the numbers :)

Level 1 hard encounter: white or black young dragon?

Hello everyone, first time poster, and first 4th edition game next week :) Simple question: is a young black dragon, level 4 solo skirmisher, too strong for a standard group of 1st level characters in a hard encounter? If it is, i will use a white dragon (3rd s. brute). I mean, black dragons...
