Are 4e feats far less exciting than 3.x?

It's a bit of an irrelevent question, really - 90% of the feats in 4e are conversions of feats from 3e, so you can't really say which are more "exciting". There are a number of feats that are total no-brainers for every class (for instance, "backstabber" for rogues) but hopefully as more...

Traps! When they break the doors, spring something contagious on them.

    Hardest encounters

I've found artillery mixed with soldiers with maybe a single controller to be the optimal mix. Brutes, lurkers and skirmishers just don't really seem to compare in a lot of situations. Brutes miss all the time and are really easy to hit (and thus affect with powers), while lurkers and...

4E being immune to criticism (forked from Sentimentality And D&D...)

In any case, I think it's quite clear that Conan's in the heroic tier, as are the baddies from his stories.

Order of the Stick: Why isn't it going 4e?

Pretty much why I stopped reading it ages ago. The guy has more words on each page of his comic than is sensible.

Schroedinger's Wounding (Forked Thread: Disappointed in 4e)

I don't understand the purpose of the argument here. D&D is a game in which characters have to survive hundreds upon hundreds of fights in order to reach their peak potential. If they get into five fights and get their limbs permanently disabled, the characters are screwed. I don't think D&D...

Making a Samurai: AC and Armor problem

You seem to be under the impression that dexterity adds to the AC of a character in heavy armour. It doesn't.

Making a Samurai: AC and Armor problem

Yep, this works nicely because as a sword-wielder you'll find that having a nice high dex boosts a good number of your encounter powers.

4E being immune to criticism (forked from Sentimentality And D&D...)

Similar situation to you. I love the fact that a thread decrying endless dead-end critical discussion of 4th ed has ballooned out to 23 pages in a week. Good show :D

    What are Tieflings good at?

I think I have to dispute this, though you make a good point about the at-will powers. Obviously at the end of the day we're only talking about a +1 here, but the idea of needing an extra leader so your leader can do anything but at-wills effectively just doesn't sit right with me. I guess the...

    What are Tieflings good at?

What, are you forgetting humans all of a sudden? And tiefling warlords really aren't that good since they don't have a strength bonus, which is the basis of pretty much all of their powers.

    Brain Fluke

As GM I'd give the players some clues that the guy was possessed by a brain fluke. He'd act as though he had the same intelligence as the fluke, occasionally have little bits of shed fluke (you know, like how people who have tapeworms occasionally find in the loo after they go) dribble out of...

    Good & Bad : Wizards

You see, the fighter is the real AOE master, since he gets sweeping blow. Seriously though, Flaming Sphere is an absolute beast in longer fights.

    Racial Tiers

Dragonborn I'd definitely put up as one of the best races, possibly THE best. Dragonbreath is great, unique and excellent imagery for the game, the bonuses are brilliant (especially for an inspiring warlord, for instance) and even their minor racial powers (like bigger healing surges) are all...

    Racial Tiers

Humans are pretty awesome for any class that relies mainly on one ability score, like wizards, rogues, fighters, and swordmages, because they get a lot more flexibility from the extra at-will.

    Discussing 4e Subsystems: POWERS!

Your example is silly. The GM knows that Bob can be picked up at any time by the warlord, so why would he go into such an overly anatomical description for Bob being knocked down, when he could simply describe him being knocked to his knees, winded, lacking the will to carry on, as the darkness...

Has 4e changed the way you play D&D? Forked Thread: Discussing 4e Subsystems: POWERS!

I must say, being able to just pick stuff out of the monster manual and throw it at my party works wonders for prep time as a DM. I can spend a lot more time on storylines and stuff, instead of having to assign 18 feats for my new skum fighter NPC who won't last two seconds in melee with the party.

You could run for cover somewhere. Then he'd have to come to you to fight.

    Good & Bad : Wizards

Let's look at at-wills. Fighter gets Tide of Iron - an excellent at-will as it allows him to push an enemy 1 square when he hits them. Wizard gets Thunderwave a far better at-will which allows him to push a bunch of enemies a number of squares equal to his Wisdom modifier. (so, usually about 3...

Compiled info on upcoming classes & races

Heh, no offense meant. Usually martial controller suggestions are something like "whipmaster", "monk", or "trick archer", where the controller has a lot of powers that tie people up, throw them around the room, or affect areas with storms of arrows. I haven't really seen one I thought was too...
