    [Adventurer's Vault] Problematic Items

Yeah, this is my exact philosophy. I'd far rather everyone was running around with flaming swords than just "generically better sword +2".

    Minions and hps

Well, Flaming Sphere and Rain of Steel are massively powerful abilities that are extremely effective against anything from solos down to minions, so while they are great against minions, they're not exactly "designed for use against them". That said, someone using Rain of Steel or Flaming...

    How computers have effected D&D

Although I somewhat resent the OP since it just seems like a long-winded way of saying, "4e is World of Warcraft!" like we've heard a million times already, I must say I'm looking forward to a 4e computer game. It just seems like it would work so much more smoothly than 3e did. I had high hopes...

    Warhammer Fantasy vs. 40k roleplaying

Well, the rules are virtually identical, except the careers system is different and you can dodge ranged attacks now. You won't have any trouble learning one if you're familiar with the other.

Justifying high level 'guards', 'pirates', 'soldiers', 'assassins', etc.

Make them drow. The entire race is 150-year old badasses who've trained in combat for a century each, but someone still has to pull guard duty.

Tactical Warlord - Human or Eladrin?

I guess that's true. I don't play Forgotten Realms, so I hadn't given those books much more than a cursory glance.

Can ranger dual wield superior weapons

Hopefully with Adventurer's Vault I'll see a two blade ranger that doesn't use bastard swords.

Diagonal Movement - Better or Worse?

*shrug* I was okay playing it either way, to be honest. It's really just something that matters little enough to me that I can't be bothered to house-rule it. This is another one of the things about 4e that plays far better than it reads.

Tactical Warlord - Human or Eladrin?

For race, I'd probably go human, as having a bonus to strength is really handy for warlords. I'm kinda glad there isn't a +2 str +2 int race in a way, it means there isn't one massively clear choice for this build (as dragonborn are for the inspiring warlord).

    Poll: Drow PC's

Well, it really depends on the game. Which NPCs in particular are being interacted with? If they've been heavily raided by drow in general, then there'd be a significant penalty. However, if drow are rare in their area, they probably wouldn't act much out of the ordinary. I put "don't play a...

    Minions and hps

I don't really like it. I don't like having to track anything for minions, even bloodied states. I also don't like the idea that auto-damage auras take only two rounds to kill minions. I mean, it's a step in the right direction, but I don't think it goes far enough.

Best think about D&D so far. Adventurer's vault.

I'm glad there's a larger variety of stuff to hand out now. I feel that is definitely something 4e is lacking compared to 3e - variety in classes, items, powers, etc.

    Gifts for a Low-bie Party - Advice?

My suggestion is to never use a flat "+1 item". Give everything a special ability. It just adds so much flavour if your magic sword also sets stuff on fire.

    Minions and hps

Perhaps an increase in defenses and immunity to auto-damage effects is in order?

    Rogue: Artful or Dodger?

I agree with most of what you said, but not this. Throw a knife. Speaking of rogues, how are Brutal Scoundrels? I've never seen one played yet.

    Flaming Sphere... again.

I think I'd give it a free attack as well. Walking through a ball of magic fire should hurt.

    Minions and hps

I must say, I still like the idea of minions. In practice, though, they just die too easily to really be equivalent to the amount of XP they're supposed to be worth. At-will blast powers and sustainable auto-damage powers are a large part of this. Between powers like Dragon Breath, Flame Burst...

    D&D 4E 4e rule question - extended rest & HP's

Three of my players have lost characters already. One was devoured by oozes, another took a minion's javelin through the back of the head, and a third was killed by Irontooth's pet Wyrmpriest.

    Forked Thread: playing non-attacking characters

If you're such a pacifist, why do you go around with a heavily-armed gang that kills things and takes their stuff? I would've thought that would be a fairly huge problem for the character. That said, I've always been a fan of the non-lethal character in games like Shadowrun. Sneaking around...

    [Adventurer's Vault] Problematic Items

I didn't, actually. Which bracers are you referring to? Is it the one that only works for basic attacks? Because that's not at all the same thing. Nevertheless, Keterys's counter-argument still works. Something so universally useful is the definition of a broken magic item (IE: Something...
