No, you don't need both. Showdown is a "lite" version with just some of the shoot-em-up rules and none of the RPG material. Unfortunately, no, we will not have any maps at GenCon. Those are only available on CafePress (I think).

The books are on a truck headed for our warehouse right now. Should be here on the 29th or 30th. Then it goes to distributors, then retail outlets. So figure 10-21 days to be in stores (YMMV, obviously). We have another PDF preview available (as of yesterday, I think).

AT GTS, several retailers/distributors said "hey, this is the nicest Western RPG I've ever seen!" And I replied, "thanks, but I think you're wrong...name for me a nicer looking RPG from ANY genre, including leather bound special editions." Not one could think of a book that surpasses A&8...

The Kalamar screen has both. Since it has flaps and inner panels it can hold 4x the material of most DM screens (24 panels vs 6 or 8 -- factor-in artwork and the Kalamar screen ratio of useful info becomes even greater).
