    5e Magic the Gathering

I'm noticing that a lot of those deities also overlap with Planeswalkers (which feels legit - considering what the player is capable of doing in the actual card game), so that's something else to keep in mind.

    D&D 5E DM's Adventure Log for D&D 5e?

Sure! I'd love to see it.

    D&D 5E DM's Adventure Log for D&D 5e?

I was looking at the Dungeon Masters Log for AD&D 1e, and while the second page of that log (monster notes, marching order, light sources, treasure information, general session notes) is still incredibly useful, no matter which edition of D&D you're using, the 1st page of the log is...

    Video Game Dungeons

I think it probably works best to take concepts from games in the same genre (like taking dungeons from fantasy RPGs) - with some exceptions, like retooling a Hitman level for an adventure where the party has to make their way through a populated area to kill someone without getting caught. Hell...

Mike Mearls Talks Greyhawk in Lore You Should Know

I have the booklets from the original Greyhawk setting set - but not the map :( - so I wouldn't mind a new version of the setting. Also, Gary on occasion would progress the current events of the setting, I'm reading series of articles from Gary in old Dragon magazines where he's basically...

The Battle Continues Over "Childish Things"

Well, Maher's argument is taking that statement and adding - "...and because of that they are inferior to adults of my generation and thus by extension me - and are they, their life experiences, their fears and nightmares, hopes and dreams, are worthy of mockery and dismissal." It's the same...

    Roleplaying Game Table Sizes

We use a couple of big plastic folding tables from Costco side-by-side which work nicely.

How often do your players multiclass?

I've seen multi-classed characters once in the handful of the 5e campaigns I've been in - and it was for role-play reasons. I was in an X-Crawl campaign, and the party had an Metal band theme. The player who was playing the lead singer bowed out of the group, so my character (who was a rogue and...

Worlds of Design: “Old School” in RPGs and other Games – Part 2 and 3 Rules, Pacing, Non-RPGs, and G

Yeah - the sentiment in these articles as a whole feels very strongly like gatekeeping - that if you're not playing the style of game that lewpuls endorses (I'm not going to explicitly describe it as "old school" because has been mentioned over the past few threads), you're not a real...

So Mike Mearls is on the phone...

I like this - but with a twist - doing this as part of a Council of Wyrms campaign - setting information on Dragon society, more information on different types of dragons, rules for creating and running dragon characters, and a campaign that you could run with those characters.

    Feature Request: Bookmark/Subscribe to Files

I was thinking, it would be great to be able to bookmark or subscribe to files in the downloads section so, if I quickly need to re-find or re-download a file, I can quickly find it in a pinch, instead of having to hunt for it.

D&D 5E Tell me about your Adventures in Middle-Earth experiences, please

From a narrative level - how hard would it be to take some old MERP adventures and adapt them to Adventures in Middle Earth - not mechanically (I know that bit is going to require a total overhaul), just in terms of narrative structure?

We Were All New D&D Players Once

Also, part of the reason for doing it at the end of the session is that it doesn't cost playtime, and the player will have had just observed how their charater worked (or didn't) in play - and this works whether you're using pre-gens or if the players created their own characters (as was the...

We Were All New D&D Players Once

My rule of thumb, on the small handful of occasions where I've run games (which was also for new players), was that at the end of any session, before level 3, the new player could re-spec. By the time they hit level 3, they should have a pretty good idea of how to play their class.

Harassment Policies: New Allegations Show More Work To Be Done

As far as improved ways of communicating the harassment policy goes - in addition to posting the policy around the convention, my local anime con (Kumoricon) includes a presentation of the Harassment policy as part of the opening ceremony, through a "Rules Video" created by the con staff and the...

Adventure modules that take place in a theater?

It's not traditional D&D style (and it's a movie theater), but there was a really good scenario in the Call of Cthulhu D20 corebook set in a haunted movie theater.

D&D 5E Joe Manganiello’s article on D&D at NBC News

Anymore, I don't really encounter "stigma" behind Tabletop RPGs... I more find people who are more surprised that they still exist. At best they know about D&D 5e, but they either don't know about anything else, or know that it used to exist but assume that other games (including Call of Cthulhu...

    New Action: Flee

I think, mechanically, if you're going to keep the Flee ability from being used for unlimited Kiting, rule that the next action after fleeing can't be an attack action. You can heal, you can hide, you can cast spells that aren't attacks (teleport, Sanctuary, etc.), but you can't fight. That...
