the Hexer, AWESOME!...oh no I take that back

The solution is to get your DM to waive restrictions if your character fits the "flavor" of the class, if not the actual mechanical requirements. When the rules are adhered to too strictly, they become a noose around the neck of fun.

Pathfinder 1E Looking for chaos mutation ability or chart that isn't another version of wild magic or rod of wonder.

I don't typically buy 3PP, but I would if ever there was anything as awesome as the chaos chart. Totesmagotes, you ought to expand and publish that jank.

Pathfinder 1E Looking for chaos mutation ability or chart that isn't another version of wild magic or rod of wonder.

I just mentioned this in another thread, but you need to look At The Jester's Insane Chaos Chart from 2002: http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?20108-chaos-generator/page4&p=3965027&viewfull=1#post3965027 (links to a 2007 post compiling the charts) My gaming group has used it in...

    D&D 5E So, 5e OGL

TSR didn't invent the OGL, the SRD, or the d20 system. These are WotC innovations. WotC bought a dying game and brought it back to life. Hate them or love them, at least give them that much credit.

    [LPF] Return to Boar's Ridge

Darvus Andar, Paladin of Helerion Darvus looks quite green in the face as he struggles to contain the bile in his throat. "Gods," he says, "we are NOT riding back through that gate. When it's time to return home, we are taking the long way." He tries to pick up the pace a bit to get away from...

    D&D 5E The cost of D&D 5E (it ain't so bad!)

I'll sell you my copy of Basic for $100. Or 100 pounds if you live in the UK.

    Adventure mash-up challenge!

Also, Far Realms = time to pull out the ol' Jester's Insane Chaos Chart. It's like campaign crack.

    Adventure mash-up challenge!

Duergar with blaster rifles and power armor? :] Could be RBDM moment.

    Adventure mash-up challenge!

Ah, but that's the beauty of it; it's so cliche that no one ever uses it. Ever, at least IMHXP.

    Adventure mash-up challenge!

So I've gotta a little obsessed with "Jaquaying the dungeon", and I've been thinking about how to apply those general principals to adventure design, in general, to change linear adventure paths into proper sand-boxes. I've also been inspired by Sly Flourish's "The Lazy Dungeon Master", which...

    [LPF] Return to Boar's Ridge

Darvus Andar, Paladin of Helerion Darvus growls at the new commotion. "I have simply had enough of this!" he says under his breath. He presses the horse forward, and intends to ride right past the trog, with a politic, if somewhat trite, salutary gesture. Fortitude save vs sickened...

    D&D 5E The cost of D&D 5E (it ain't so bad!)

Ok, so what about the $13 it will actually cost you? http://www.amazon.com/Dungeons-Dragons-Starter-Set-Fundamentals/dp/0786965592

Why so? Seems to me the Starter set is aimed squarely at you.

If they were going to go the DRM route, I think we would have seen it in the preview materials on D&D Classics by now, if only as a testbed. No, I suspect there will not be any more DRM than a watermark.

    D&D 5E The cost of D&D 5E (it ain't so bad!)

The only reason anyone would pay MSRP is out of loyalty to their favorite FLGS. I buy through Amazon and I have never paid MSRP for a gaming book. And I buy many.

    D&D 5E So, 5e OGL

I hope that the "players can make characters" line for the Starter Edition is an indicator here; if there are no char-gen rules in the box, they will have to be somewhere. An OGL or OGL-like license with an SRD would accomplish this easily.

    D&D 5E The cost of D&D 5E (it ain't so bad!)

Movies and D&D are comparable for me because I enjoy them both. Soccer, not so much. Now, if you are REALLY into soccer, you're going to buy cleats, shorts, and an overpriced team shirt of your choice, so I suspect the cost of truly investing in the hobby is likely more comparable than you...

    [LPF] Return to Boar's Ridge

Darvus Andar, Paladin of Helerion The sudden odoriferous assault on Darvus's senses threatens to overwhelm him, but he manages to keep control of his stomach and press on. "Ye Gods," he says, "What a stench!" Fortitude save vs sickened: 1d20+3=10 Darvus Andar AC: 16 (15 flat-footed, 11...

    D&D 5E D&D Next: Let's discuss it's mass multimedia goal.

The first Transformers was what it needed to be. I didn't want an Oscar contender; I wanted huge frikkin robots smashing the crap out of each other. My needs with respect to D&D are similar.
