    A visit home

As you noted, this won't be a difficult task. In my experience PCs are incredibly wary of everyone--doubly for strangers who appear out of nowhere and are ascending to a position of power. If I was playing in this campaign I would instinctively suspect her of being a sorceress who was...

D&D 5E More Fun With D&D In Retail

Has anyone asked you what those mean? Or do they just gloss by them?

D&D 5E My Son's First PC Death (handled it pretty well)

We had something similar in a CoC game. My character and another PC ran into Cthulhu in the dreamworld. My friend's PC missed his sanity check, lost 1d100 sanity, and was reduced to a blubbering pile. My PC made his sanity check and only lost 1d10 sanity. I don't recall the exact value but...

    D&D 5E Riddle Me This

I love the thought of riddles and puzzles in a game because I optimistically imagine that they'll be solved. When this happens it's glorious and rewarding. When that doesn't happen they're a drag. They either become a frustrating time sink or the GM gives you an obvious hint or lets you roll...

Board Games with "D&D feel" for kids

I played Milton Bradley's Hero Quest and the Legend of Drizzt boardgame with my 6 year old daughter. She much preferred and grasped Hero Quest over the Drizzt game. (It warmed my heart when she made her very first character, Add the dwarf.) My friend played Mice and Mystics...

    D&D 5E Free actions ??

I'd much rather see a character throw their comrade a sword and do something awesome, so I would make both a free action.

D&D 5E I thought about summoning spells too hard

I thought it would be interesting if a wizard the PCs were facing cast a Summon spell and the individual that the spell randomly summoned turned out to be one of the PCs who would then have to fight their companions. I thought there was a Summon spell that would allow this without requiring a...

    D&D 5E Easter Eggs in 5E

In the trinkets section the silver spoon with an M engraved on it (#49) might be an homage to Murlynd's Spoon.

D&D 5E Do Otyughs literally eat... (dung)???

Oh, really? Do you recall which webcomic it came from? I'd like to give it a read.

    Reviewing Chris Perkins

That's the impression I get from reading his Dungeon Master Experience articles. The articles chronicled his home campaign and used situations that arose in the campaign to illustrate a GMing tip. I obviously wasn't watching his home campaign sessions but from his writing they seem to have a...

D&D 5E Do Otyughs literally eat... (dung)???

@Tonguez had the quote from @IcyCool. It cracked me up every time I saw it, so I saved it. [FONT=verdana]

D&D 5E Do Otyughs literally eat... (dung)???

I wouldn't go so far as to call an otyugh filthy, but it's definitely dirty. But otyughs got personality. Personality goes a long way.

    Reviewing Chris Perkins

I think he's fantastic. I find his NPCs to be well acted and his pacing for the Acquisition Inc. one-shots is spot on. For me his Dungeon Master Experience articles in the Dungeons and Dragons magazine were pensive and chock full of useful advice on how to build and run campaigns and plots...

    D&D 5E Pixies

Reaper has some that might be to your liking. https://www.reapermini.com/FigureFinder#search/pixie https://www.reapermini.com/FigureFinder#search/fairy Unearthed Arcana had some spryte figures that were neat because they were on scale. http://www.fantization.com/sprytesx2figsapr06.aspx

D&D 5E What to do when Pc's die? What then for that player?

I prefer that everyone has the same XP and level. The penalty for character death is that you don't get to play a character that you enjoy and put time and effort in developing and playing. Penalizing the player more is unnecessary.

D&D 5E Mage Hand and the No Good, Low Down, Dirty Rotten Arcane Trickster

I think it's too harsh. It's a class feature, so I would let it excel at being cool.

Cook-off! How do I run this?

If the players are trying to win over the French buccaneers, I would have the buccaneers be the "judges" instead of the competitors. The PCs would make a meal that the buccaneers love so much they'll enlist with them. If you want competitors, you could have a rival ship trying to lure the...

D&D 5E Song of Rest stacking question

I would let it stack. Especially if the players actually sing Endless Love.

    D&D 5E Dual-Wielding

I've always wanted to have a character with a hook for a hand who "dual-wields" their primary weapon (a cutlass seems appropriate) and their hook.
