    "Lawful" Bards

It's your game so, if you want a lawful Bard, just rule it so. OK, ok, it's your players' game as well but I doubt the change would spoil their fun. Actually, I find House Ruling Traditional Concepts rather liberating. I HR'd that Paladins could be any alignment, so long as they were the same...

    Is this fair?

Fair? Sounds like it to me. Popular? Depends on how the players take it. IMC, when NPCs ambush the PCs I make the hide and move silently rolls and the PCs react to what I tell them. I don't fudge the rolls - if I roll higher than the PCs' listen checks the bad guy creeps in unheard, if not...

What new species have you created via templates?

You guys have given me so many ideas. My players will be freaked out and I will do a happy dance.

    Warrior - Will Save

Is it the GM's first game? Sounds a bit like he just needs a bit of experience (and mucho player feedback) to sort out a more "balanced" style. IMO.

    Rage, unconciousness, and -HP

I guess that if your raging barbarian falls over and gets healed he would be even more angry when he regained consciousness.

    Monks and hitting people

As GM for Plane Sailing's Monk I don't think the class needs changing. Monks can rock as much as any other class. DanMcS hits the problem on the head. Monks need to be played differently to fighters, perhaps with a little more finesse and forethought. Than again, every class could benefit from...

Don't see why not. He'd be pretty pi:) :)ed about being held, after all.

    Top 5 D&D Books

PHB, DMG, MM, LotR, an atlas of the world. Basically, I can't be bothered with any more monsters other people have devised (just want the MM for the rules on how to make up new monsters) and don't need anymore ideas on optional rules, so the Core books will do. Lord of the Rings to read...

Entangle and Web - What have you done to them?

    1) that is the way it works in ToEE - The PC Game. Dunno if I'd change it, but it's worth thought. 2) wouldn't have helped, in our instance, as the spell DC was 19. OK, that's 1 lower. I'll think about all this before I lob another web at you. :]

Are spell storing weapons worthwhile at highers levels?

Searing Light cast by a 10th level character - +5d8 no save, +10d6 to Undead. Still not worth it?

Entangle and Web - What have you done to them?

As the DM in Plain Sailing's example, I am thinking about changing Web to make it easier for strong characters to move through it. I don't intend to make major changes, perhaps lower the Break Free and Move Through DCs by 5 so even an average character should be able to move 5' per round. I...

    Grappling with a shield

If you are using your hand to hold on to your opponent you can't use it to wave your shield around to defend yourself. Perhaps you could take the shield's armour check penalty as a negative adjustment to AC, but I would be inclined to just say you gain no bonus from the shield.

Legal target for active spell changes to illegal target

I agree with the blue guy. As long as the target was legal at the time of casting it continues to be affected for the spell's duration, even if it dies.

What's the best Electronic game aid

DMGenie. Well within your budget and makes building NPCs a lot easier. And it's getting better with every update.

    What exactly is common knowledge

I agree with Adventurers having SOME ideas about "common" monsters and use Knowledge skills to gain extra information. Don't be afraid to rule against your players if you think you position is the correct one. If you really think that they would not have a piece of information about a monster...

    Gaming and Friendship (for DM's)

I game with friends but, occasionally someone brings along a friend of a friend who then becomes my friend. Got that? Actually, I don't necessarily have to really like the others, just not really dislike them. Rob's Third Law states that "Everybody is an ar:)ehole sometimes". Haven't yet come...

    Fumbles

IMC you roll a 1 to hit and fail a DC15 Reflex save you fumble. My short table runs from looking silly through lobbing your weapon away up to damaging yourself/nearest friend. Nothing too gross but it does make it a little more fun, except that I (GM) roll most of the 1s.

    [d20 Modern] Defense and Armor/Shields

Let's see: 10 + (L7 Fast = +6) + (Dex = +4) = 20. Add a Light Duty Vest for +5 and Bob est ton oncle. Providing the character has the appropriate Armour Proficiency Feats (Light and Medium) and accepts the -4 check penalty. Don't know about shields - my cursory glance at the SRD didn't find a...

A change to the Leadership Feat, opinions

I agree with your Elf getting the benefit of being an Elf for free, with a bonus to diplomacy for allied Elves (and a penalty for enemy Elves). It is just part of being an Elf. IMC, I am toying with having feats for Guild/Temple/Secret Society membership, perhaps several for different levels...
