D&D 5E White Plume Mountain - The Weapons

How did your game go, Jester Canuck? I saw some posts on Twitter, but would love some details. My players managed to obtain both Wave and BR during the first session. The Wave player did a great job proselytizing for Procan during the adventure and the BR player willingly accepted BR, which...

D&D 5E White Plume Mountain - The Weapons

Here's a couple of modifications I made to the weapons: Wave – This trident is ornately decorated with aquatic images. When grasped, it emanates a divine fervor, urging its bearer to follow its lead. 1. +3 Trident dedicated to the worship of Procan (Oeridian God of the Oceans) 2. Critical...

D&D 5E White Plume Mountain - The Weapons

I'm getting ready to run WPM for my DnDNext group, so I've whipped up my (probably sad) versions of Wave, Whelm, and Blackrazor. Overpowered? Underpowered? Am I on the right track? I'd love some feedback and alternate ideas. Thanks. Wave – This trident is ornately decorated with aquatic...

    Evil Dead

I saw the movie today and didn't care for it much. In fact, I imagined it as a scenario from The Cabin in the Woods and it was much more enjoyable. When you watch the movie, imagine this scenario in your mind and you'll find that it's perfect.

    [April] What are you reading?

Halfway through The Whale Road. History Channel's Vikings has me craving more and The Whale Road delivers.

D&D 5E Fight at the Fishmongers: reskinning your D&D Next playtest

I've re-skinned some monsters myself, even using the carnivorous apes as you did to simulate higher level warriors. I've recently adapted White Plume Mountain for 5E, liberally re-skinning to populate the dungeon as close as I can to the original. It works great and the players never know.

D&D 5E As passive as a laser cleric.

I had already planned to allow crits on a rolled "1" on saving throws for direct attack damage spells. My players got accustomed to have an opportunity to crit with their ray spells, especially Lance of Faith, so I see no reason to remove that option. It adds to the excitement of the game.

D&D 5E Should Cure and Inflict Wounds should be touch spells? *Now with a Survey!* REVEALED TO ALL

I like the risk/reward paradigm, so how about a bonus to healing, perhaps even maximized healing, if done at touch range? If done at range, roll as normal.

D&D 5E Halfling Weapon Training Gone?

I had a player completely abandon his Dwarven Fighter because the Dwarf lost his weapon training. He claimed the "feel" of the dwarf has been lost and he no longer was comfortable with his character.

D&D 5E D&D Next Q&A: Martial Healing, Fighter Utility, and Ranger Challenges

I'm not sure why there is such a push for the Warlord to even be a class in 5E. Admittedly, my 4E play was limited to about 10 sessions, and nobody played a Warlord, but wasn't the Warlord class more of an extrapolation of possible tactics using the 4E rules rather than a full-fledged...

    Badges

Just checking to see if my badge is showing up. Nothing to see here. Edit: And...it's not. 2nd Edit: And...now it is!

D&D 5E Even if you like D&D Next, are you buying it, and how soon?

I'll buy the initial core books for sure, just as soon as they hit my FLGS. Splat books, supplements, etc will receive scrutiny before any purchase decision is made. I'm not going down the "new core book every year" route ever again. The initial release needs to be a complete game.

D&D 5E Status Check: Still playtesting?

I've been playing regularly with the same group since the playtest was released. In fact, we have a game tonight. I've allowed the players to be pretty fluid with their characters, adapting and changing them to suit their desires as the rules have been updated. This approach has allowed the...

    What are you listening to?

Yeah. Here's a link to a collection of their songs on Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4MSGKdI-Gc&list=ALYL4kY05133p-J7T-t6TwD2KqTgkAzsGn

    What are you listening to?

Okay, not a podcast, but I've been listening to Alabama Shakes. I saw them on SNL and was blown away. What a breath of fresh air on the music scene. Awesome. I'm not sure how to describe them other than saying Janis Joplin singing with the Black Crowes. I love it.

February : What are you reading?

Having received many recommendations, I picked up and starting reading Peter V. Brett's The Warded Man. So far it's pretty good, if a bit shallow. The characters are lacking depth, but I'm hoping the writing improves, as I like the direction the story is going and I like the premise. While...

February : What are you reading?

All this talk of Niven makes me want to go back and re-read some of his classics. Like someone else posted, Niven was a foundation of my Sci-Fi experience as a child. I devoured everything he wrote except, and this is strange, the Ringworld books. I need to correct that.

February : What are you watching?

I've been watching Continuum on SyFy. It started very strong, but subsequent episodes have gotten weaker. Still, it's entertaining and I'll continue to watch. I also dug the first episode of The Americans. I'll continue to check that out.

February : What are you reading?

Reading Control Point by Myke Cole. Magic has returned to the world and is controlled by the military. It's a pretty cool premise, but poor Mr. Cole writes such shallow, unbelievable characters that I just want to toss the book across the room. I'll finish it for the sake of completion, but...

D&D 5E Speculation on the Barbarian DD Next Class

I saw a quick report on the Barbarian. From the poster's recollection, his character had a Rage ability, took half damage from blunt, slashing, and piercing attacks, had increased movement, and could give himself advantage in combat at the expense of allowing his enemies advantage against him...
