D&D 5E [Poll] Do You Like The Direction D&DN Is Heading In?

My players were very skeptical prior to our first session, but are now loving the game and cannot wait until each new session. For me, DnDNext is a major hit and I'm enjoying it in it's current, unfinished form. I'm very anxious to have the finished product. It harkens back to 1E, which very...

D&D 5E Unnoficial Playtest Resource: weem's map of the Caves of Chaos

I just used it today in my first DnDNext playtest. It went great and the map helped a lot. Thanks, Weem!

January : What are you reading?

I just quit reading "The Passage" by Justin Cronin. The first three hundred pages were great...then, wow. I don't want to spoil it for anybody reading it, but, in my opinion, the rest of the book was a snorefest. I wish that Cronin had just continued what he was doing as the last two-thirds...

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey reactions (SPOILERS)

Radagast was an awesome D&D druid, or how I would visualize one. I could do without the bird crap on his face though.

    [Trailer] Man of Steel

I think it looks great. I love the tone of the trailer and I hope it continues in the movie.

    [November] What are you watching?

I watched Looper yesterday. It was great. Probably the best SciFi movie I've seen in some time. It was certainly better than Prometheus, which took itself far too seriously and, in the immortal words of Peter Griffin, "It insists upon itself."

    [November] What are you reading?

Halfway through Red Country by Joe Abercrombie. Not as good as The Heroes, but still very good. Looking forward to finishing it so I can get back to Cloud Atlas and try to finish that before I see the movie.

Disney buying Lucasfilm for $4 billion! More Star Wars movies coming!

Am I in the minority in hoping the Zahn books are not the basis of the new trilogy? The anti-force lizards alone turned me off to them. I'd rather see a focus on the kids of the originals/Jedi Academy storyline. The age of the original actors is irrelevant then.

    Iron Man vs. Thor

Umbran, can you give some examples of the mechanics you mention? I've been out of supers gaming for a while and I'm curious how modern games simulate power discrepency dynamics.

    [October] What are you reading?

I just finished The Scourge of God by SM Stirling. I'm loving the "Emberverse" and I really wish that the TV show Revolution had never been made, as it makes an Emberverse-based series highly unlikely. I'm ready to start Red Country by Joe Abercrombie and I can't be more excited. Abercrombie...

    Iron Man vs. Thor

Given that neither was trying to kill or seriously hurt the other, it was more of a sparring session. Had Thor been trying to finish Iron Man, my feeling is the fight would not last long. As it was, it was fun seeing them duke it out. Thor vs. Hulk would have been far more entertaining had...

    [October] What are you reading?

I got pretty heavy into the Mack Bolan books in my youth. Same mindless violence. Each book has essentially the same plot, just more and creative ways for Mack to kill people.

    [September] What are you playing?

I'm STILL playing Skyrim. Only gotten to about 30th level, but I took a long break from the game. I'm eagerly awaiting the new X-Com game, however, and will play that as soon as it's released. XCOM Enemy Unknown

    Dragon Age III: Inquisition announced

Considering how heated the threads were comparing DA:O with DA2, I hope DA:I is good! I can't take another flame-war! :-S

    How to online game?

I'm a complete neophyte when it comes to online gaming. I was hoping to get a brief primer. What program is best? How do I find a game? What equipment do I need? For those of us who cannot find the time or the people to game in person, is it a worthwhile substitute? Thanks all.

    [September] What are you reading?

I just finished The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao, which both depressed and uplifted me at the same time, and now I'm starting Cloud Atlas (just because the movie trailer looked so interesting!).

D&D 5E New D&D Next Playtest Packet Is Here!

I'm still at work, so I can't look at the files, but has Multi-classing been addressed? If so, is it more like 1E or 3E? Thanks.

    [August] What Are You Reading?

I just finished Age of Miracles, which would have been great when I was twelve, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, which I found extremely interesting considering that I thought the protagonist had Asperger's Syndrome. I've been disabused of that notion online, but I have a daughter on the...

Dark Knight Rises (review and discussion) [major spoilers from second post onwards]

I thought her death was so over-the-top pathetic and hammy that it had to have been faked. Then again, why would she fake her death when she fully believed she would die in the nuclear blast? That's the one scene that really bothered me. I have to admit, I cried at the end. Maybe I'm just a...

    Losing interest....

Okay, I'm starting to lose interest in 5E. I realize we are in the early testing phase, but I'm losing steam. When 5E was originally announced, I LIVED on ENWorld to get the latest news and rumors. I eagerly downloaded the first playtest packet and played a few test rounds with a group down...
