Help me design a Weapon of Legacy.

That's a good idea. I would like the various powers that will be unlocked to improve as the basic AC bonus increases, but I'm not sure how for the more abstract powers. For the focused energy blasts, I'm thinking either a flat damage roll, with a bonus to Attack and Damage rolls, or 1d6 or 1d8...

Help me design a Weapon of Legacy.

My ideas so far are as follows. The item will be, in its nonlegacy form, a Ring of Protection +1, that will gain abilities such as focused blasts of force, creation of temporary constructs, and flight. The inspiration behind this item comes from the Green Lantern; cheesy, yes, but with...

    OSRIC -- update

Forgive me if this question proves me quite dense, but what is OSRIC? It sounds like an adaptation of D&D 1e, but there are some comments that make me think it is more than that. Would someone please explain?

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

Session 2 of my World's Largest Dungeon game! (Ninarika's player was absent the whole time) The PCs began this session in the room in which they met Turag. They proceeded west, then north, then east, through a lot of empty corridors, until they reached a room in which a troglodyte and a...

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

Yeah, I thought they were gonna totally destroy those Orcs, but... I guess I was wrong. Ninarika has really been amusing me. The character is super-timid, and everyone just calls her "heal-bitch". She pouts a lot.

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

I ended up saying that Longtail and his Orcish retinue attacked Sharn, before moving on to the WLD. The account of the first session follows: (Note: Ninarika's player did not show up until about 2 hours in. I NPCed her until he did show up.) The party started their adventure by examining the...

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

Oh, crap, guys... My game starts in 52 minutes, and I still don't have a backstory for them; i.e.: why are they in the dungeon! I figured out I want it Eberron-based, specifically centered around Sharn. Can anyone help?

    A question about swords

Precisely. These swords were, arguably, the pinnacle of melee technology, combining the crushing power of the Greatsword or Greataxe with the cutting power of a Wakizashi or a Rapier. The downside was, in fact, that you did pretty much have to have muscles like mountains to wield them...

    Love and the DnD experience

It's equally amusing for a PC to get an effective 0 on his Move Silently check, and wake up all of the other PCs, thus making them fatigued for the next day, because their sleep was all wonky.

Define Core Only for your game

I don't know how I missed Spell Compendium or Fiend Folio, since I OWN them. Also, Libris Mortis is my best friend's favorite book... Weird.

    What Books Should I Buy?

It CAN lend itself to swashbuckling, but it's more about duplicating the crazy stuff you see in movies such as Hero or House of Flying Daggers. The book is basically sword magic. That's an odd concept, I know, but bear with me. The book introduces "maneuvers" and "stances", which are...

    It's a Half-Dragon Dire Vole, obviously. I mean, DURR.

    What Books Should I Buy?

I would say buy the Book of Nine Swords, or the Complete Adventurer. Both are superlative products, and seem like they would fit with a Freeport campaign.

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

The prep is finally done for my game. I'm so excited! Last time I tried to run the dugeon as a whole... well, we just stopped halfway through Region B... Last time I tried to run a piece of the Dungeon, though, was at Albany Gameday V, in which a group of six rat bastard PCs beat Region A...

Define Core Only for your game

Players Handbook, Dungeon Masters Guide, Sword Coast (not certain on that one), Epic Level Handbook, Heroes of Horror, Heroes of Battle, Monster Manual 2, Monster Manual 3, Fang and Fur (I could be totally making that one up), Complete Warrior, Complete Arcane, Complete Divine, Complete...

Two further words: Straight Gnome. Think about it.

Your favorite reverse-cliche character type (or other game element)?

Warlock that teeters on the edge of good and evil (in terms of methodology), without actually going to one side or the other. Most Warlocks are either the standard stereotype (super-evil), or the neo-standard stereotype (super-good... along the lines of good drow). Mine is a nice person, and...

    Love and the DnD experience

Plot devices. In the end, that's what the average DM is going to use them as, so why beat around the bush? I don't mean this as a slight against in-game romance. It can add a level of realism, or at the very least depth, to many games. I, for example, wouldn't be nearly as "in to" my Gnomish...
