To all D&D fans - what are the top 3 specific changes 4e needs in your opinion

    1) More fluff. I don't care if it is in the core books, or separate books, but I want to send you $$$ for fluff. I'm serious! This includes fluff on monsters, fluff on society, fluff on magic, fluff on the gods. Throw it all in there. Make it contradict itself - I can pick the parts I like and...

    Clerics and Rituals

So... 4e clerics begin with two rituals. While wizards receive new rituals every couple of levels, I didn't notice any mention of clerics receiving new rituals when leveling. Did I miss something? Or is it just what it looks like - clerics have to beg, borrow, and steal to get their rituals?

Ryan Dancey on Redefining the Hobby (Updated: time elements in a storytelling game)

Did you misread my original post? It started out by stating that: I think it's great that you have a very high regard for single player CRPG. That has nothing to do with what I posted. People have been modding games like Civilization, NWN, etc. for years and then playing them with and...

Ryan Dancey on Redefining the Hobby (Updated: time elements in a storytelling game)

<Shrug /> It doesn't matter if you or I like it or not. At the end of the day the difference between rpg's and crpg's will come down to the ability to on-the-fly alter narrative flow and the granularity of the story. It's not accidental that all the examples you've provided deal with travel. In...

Ryan Dancey on Redefining the Hobby (Updated: time elements in a storytelling game)

There is a world of difference between a VCR looking you in the eye, realizing that you are bored, and finding a way to spice up or speed up the story and you hitting a fast forward button. Likewise there is a world of difference between having WowW altering how long it takes to walk from...

Ryan Dancey on Redefining the Hobby (Updated: time elements in a storytelling game)

Just a few thoughts regarding the growth of games such as WoW vs. the decline of table top games: The fundamental differenced between CRPGs (massive or not) and table top rpgs is that of pacing. Computer games will never be able to adjust pacing on the fly to keep the interest of players...

Red Hand of Doom - I feel like a butcher...

Thanks for the responses. Good to know I'm not totally alone... [spoiler] I guess a lot of what especially bothers me is the way the campaign finished up. They dropped Azzar Kul in two rounds (!) after he wasted about ten buffing himself per the tactics section in the encounter. Then...

Red Hand of Doom - I feel like a butcher...

Just completed running this campaign last night, and I feel slightly sick... I have never had so many player character deaths in so few levels as I have running RHoD. Between levels 5-10, I had a total of ten PC deaths, including two near-party wipes (one survivor out of five players each time)...

World's Largest Dungeon in actual play [Spoilers!]

Just started up Hi, I started running WLD just after the new year with a party of four: Dwarven Fighter, Dwarven Wizard, Tiefling Rogue, and Half Orc Cleric. I've been using power ups in place of experience, as well as some other house rules: 1. Since levels come from exploring, not...
