What moves you to choose a specific race?

I generally opt for the race that looks most compelling in skimpy underwear. In a world rife with wooly rhinofolk, amorphous waxoids, and three-legged cheese mephits, the choice is rarely as straightforward as you might think.

    Higgs Boson Particle Discovered!

Well, of course you did. There's pictures of bosoms all over the interne--- Wait, what...? Oh! Nevermind.

    Higgs Boson Particle Discovered!

Yes. I always steer clear of gravitons. They look so delicious among the other appetizers at all posh parties I frequent, but I know they just go straight to my hips. This is exciting news! Congrats to the groups that have confirmed Higgs, and to all the other folks whose work led up to this.

You might be a Fantasy Heartbreaker...

If there are 87 mechanically distinct polearms on the equipment list, it might be a fantasy heartbreaker.

    'Primitive' campaign adventure seeds?

Thanks for the replies! There's a lot of very useful pointers to get over my GM's block. The world is actually a bit more fleshed out than indicated in the vgue OP, but is still in that disorganized early stage of development, so this is all very useful. I'll post a bit more detail later when...

    'Primitive' campaign adventure seeds?

Could any kind enworlders provide some brainstorming help for adventure seeds, scenarios, puzzles, and/or intrigues suitable for a "primitive" setting? By that I mean: - World is young (so no ancient ruins, etc) - World is feral (dinosaurs, giant apes, cavemen, carnivorous plants, etc)...

D&D 5E Do We Need Another "Damage On A Miss" Poll?

Just cast Otto's Irresistable Poll Dance. It's faster, and reveals... data... more clearly.

The Ogre Killed the Dwarf in 3 Rounds

I see no problem with this, only a moral: "Don't go toe-to-toe with a great big ogre at first level."

    Where's the "10ft pole" option?

    D&D 5E 5e "Skill" Checks

I think it's fantastic! I've used it a fair bit, and think it works nicely. As others have mentioned, it's an option that's been around at least since 3.0, and is also codified in Microlite20, among other d20 variants, I imagine. It can be abused if players are allowed to determine the...

    Base measurement in DDN

Is that really a disadvantage? Turn it around: what advantage is there in using yards or meters? In the end, it's just a convenience to mark points on a map in a fictitious world. "Pace" is no more or less arbitrary that "yard" or "meter"-- and happens to be a vague real-world term that...

    Base measurement in DDN

I like 1 yard/metre measurement scheme-- though it would force a re-think of exactly how to treat threatened area, reach, space, and the like. But I think it would be neat to call them "paces" instead. IMO, it's got a more fantasy feel; it's fairly intuitive to understand in realword terms...

    Hypothetical Concept : MAD Casters

Heh, I won't be clamoring to burn you; you sorta ninja'd me by about 1 hour! I think it's a neat idea, to tie casting stat to spells rather than to casting classes. Would that open up possibilities for CHA clerics or WIS wizards or INT sorcs? Would the difference between classes then be...

    Les Miserables

Now that I think about it, pain dans le cul certainly does give a new meaning to the term "roll-play".

D&D 5E The cover of the 5E PHB: What I'd like to see

I like the idea of a traditional scene with the standard 4 adventurers, maybe an extra &/or donkeyhorse, in a freaky environment fighting off a horde (or else big bad slithery monster) while yoinking a treasure. An interesting twist might be to render this scene in a modern style, but reflect...

Black Box GMing - Would you play with it?

If you're looking for recommendations on lite systems, there's also Altars & Archetypes (8 pages), which is inspired by things like Risus and Simple20. I've never played it, but it intrigues me-- and iirc a few people around here play it.
