I view the Barbarian as more of a concept than a culture. I also have dropped the Illiteracy. He is a passioned warrior who fights till the end. He uses raw power to win a fight. He doesn't have to be savage or a brute. Just have him be an impassioned warrior.

Why does the monk have to be lawful in alignment? The argument for discipline does not make sense, as you can be chaotic and still have discipline. I can even imagine an order of monks that has no real structure. Is it an old hangover from 1st ed, or is it a flavor rule?
