June is Worldwide Adventure Writing Month

Tabletop roleplaying games have traditionally relied on a Game Master to create and run adventures. Sometimes that Game Master uses published adventure material. I know for a fact that the internet is chock full of extremely talented GMs. We can all help each other out by writing adventures we...

    Treasure and leveling comparisons: AD&D1, B/ED&D, and D&D3 - updated 11-17-08 (Q1)

Quasqueton, thank you for taking the time to research the mdoules, crunch the numbers, post, and re-post your results. I find your methods sound, as any proposed efficiency factor or other fudges only introduce more uncertainty into your estimates, not less. Although I've grown less...

Your Favorite RPG Supplement, for any Game, Period

Strikeforce is my alltime favorite as well. Nice to see other folks remember it! I'm also a huge fan of S. John Ross's Risus Companion. Best GMing advice for comedy games I've ever seen and a fun read to boot. And Ron Edwards Sorcerer & Sword really opened up my eyes to a new way of running...

    How do you use templates?

My current campaign arc features a devil invasion of Greyhawk, so much of the opposition consists of monsters with the Fiendish or Half-Fiendish template thrown on. Examples include goons like the Diabolic Centaurs (Fiendish Wemic Warriors) and Half-Fiend Red Dragons and unique critters like...

How many core classes can we expected in 4th ed?

I'm guessing 12. All the classes in the PHB plus the Artificer.

The Secret of Bone Hill - your experiences?

My one go running L1 was one of the classic adventures of my youth. The party recruited pretty much all the NPC help they could and mounted a full scale frontal assault on the keep. Meanwhile, two of the PCs snuck in and entered building, catching the wizard unawares. The battle outside went...

Do your combats take a lot of Real Time to play out? Why?

My game starts somewhere between 7pm and 8pm, winding up no later than 11pm. With outside issues such as my daughter interrupting play to demand attention, we can squeeze in 3 hours of play if we're lucky, but 2 hours is more likely. Last game my 'opening encounter' for the adventure took the...

When was the Golden Age of Dragon magazine?

As far as I'm concerned Dragon reached its absolute pinnacle in March '77 with the publication of the greatest Dragon article ever: Bruce Seligman's one page opus "Gandalf Was Only A Fifth Level Magic-User". As soon as I find a suitable frame that page is going up in my game room. There's been...

THe RPG book you've waited for is going to be a PDF only release, do you buy?

I voted yes, but I would seriously look at the vendor supplying the PDF and the price. I've passed on PDFs I've wanted because the price was a tad high or because I wasn't certain of the customer service at the vendor level.

    Favourite D&D Adventure?

Keep on the Borderlands. To me exploring the Caves of Chaos is the quintessence of D&D.

What books did you use last session?

Last session I only needed the three corebooks, but my players consulted the PHB II, UA (Gestalt PCs), Spell Compendium, and one or two complete books.

    Calculating appropriate CRs for gestalt

I have not found the CR/EL system very useful for my Gestalt campaign. I've been learning the hardway how to intuit challenges for the group. So far I haven't overgunned any encounters but I have used to wimpy foes a couple times.

The top 100 'Sacred Cows' of Roleplaying

You're totally right about this. I think I'll use fixed HPs for my future campaigns. However, I would totally play in a game where the other resources you got at each level were randomized as well.

    Need help: elf sorcerer 1

Yeah, I called her my kid sister. It's a term of affection. I don't have a real good feel for Living Greyhawk myself, so I can't really offer much more information than it's a generic Good Guys Go on Quests for Cash type of set-up. Do you have a recommendation for a first level feat?

    Need help: elf sorcerer 1

Howdy folks! My kid sister wants to try Living Greyhawk but she hasn't played D&D since using the Basic set back in '84 or so. She has enlisted my help to build her an elf sorcerer that 'kicks butt'. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience running arcane casters in 3.5. Can someone...

Are there any skills and feats magic systems?

The Black Company has a skills and feats system, IIRC.

    AEG's Adventure Keep series: experiences?

I play in an infrequently-meeting campaign that is nothing but Adventure Keep pamphlets strung together. It was a little uneven in spots but everyone had a good time. I'm looking at buying volume I of the re-do for my next campaign.

    D&D Race Survivor -- Round 1

I voted for gnomes. I hate elves, but I'd rather see a race that I hated win when another option is gnomes, which cause no visceral reaction in me whatsoever. The things some folks are saying about half-elves and half-orcs are making me weep man. Those races are so chockful of roleplaying...

    Have we lost the dungeon?

There is nothing inherently wrong with random, jumbled-up dungeons that make little sense. How the hobby came to a contrary conclusion is beyond me. A good dungeon has a certain sense of dreamlike irrationality. That's what gives it the inherent danger, the mystique, the edge it has. A...

Starting a Campaign in media res?

My plan is that the first time someone asks this to reply "All will be explained AFTER the fight." The second time someone asks I will announce that the player's PC is lost in thought, contemplating the events that led to this situation, and that he doesn't get to go this round. But really...
