[3.5] Archmages Affected, Spell Power Clarified!

I haven't seen it here so I thought I'd go ahead and throw this out. Spell Power no longer increases save DCs. According to Andy Collins in this thread , Spell Power is now a "true caster level increase." That makes for a very interesting revision, and makes the Archmage much less appealing...

Forgotten Realms Twilight: SILVER MARCHES (Mage type & other needed!)

I'm potentially interested. Just e-mail me some info and I'll look it over tonight. Later.

Point-buy or rolling? Your preference and why?

After running a game where we rolled our stats, I decided against that in future games. Problem comes when one rolls very well, then another rolls poorly. Stats make a big difference in this game. The party rogue was doing just as well as the party fighter, due solely to his better stats. So...

How many dice do you own?

    30. Five of each (d4-d20). If a spell requires more rolling, I'll roll more dice after counting the first roll. If the rolling gets up into the 20+ number of dice, I'll usually take average (or I'll use a maximize :-). Later.

    Do you *cast* Wish?

I'm a little surprised so many people have even cast the spell themselves. Although I think many of these votes happened before I said using a scroll/ring of 3 wishes did not "count". My general theory is that wish is weak in many respects. Before everyone jumps in and points out it's great...

D&D 3E/3.5 Does/should nondetection block detect magic? 3.5 update (kinda)

I've always played nondetection as protecting against detection spells. I mean, seriously, that's what it's for right? :D

The optimal number of participants (player AND DM)!

I think anywhere from 3-6 is acceptable (voted for 4). 2 is too small a group, while 7 can run into a management problem (too many people wanting to do too many things at the same time). Later.

    Do you *cast* Wish?

No, these don't count. As the original message states, casting the wish should affect the character (sans what the wish actually does).

    Do you *cast* Wish?

I was participating in this thread and decided I'd like to solicit some feedback regarding Wish. My inquiry is two-fold. First, have you, as a PC, every actually *cast* it? No "I was the DM and an NPC cast it." No, "well it was a one-shot, so what the heck." You get the idea...

    The Worm That Walks

Um, have you read the ELH? After playing in a couple Epic games and going over the rules in that book, it is clear that the majority of the CRs and adjustments are under-estimated (at least assuming core rules). A friend of mine was DMing a game and he's had to remove a great deal of power from...

Ten Level Classes/ Canonized PrC (3.5 and beyond)

Isn't this a non-issue? It is not a core feat in 3.5. Given it was created under 3.0, the way it is now would likely be reduced in power or removed entirely.

All the new spells on the revised Paladin spell list

Interesting they took out Freedom of Movement... that was one of the spells I'd always keep handy.

    Auto-Quicken Spell + Multispell + Time Stop + Wish = Cheese (Time Stop+Wish Argument)

Uh, I didn't say that. I said I don't see myself denying such a wish, and gave circumstances under which the spell would most likely be used. Restoring a single character to full strength seems to be on par with the other listed "safe" effects, in my opinion (like I stated earlier, others...

    Auto-Quicken Spell + Multispell + Time Stop + Wish = Cheese (Time Stop+Wish Argument)

The thing is, what if the character does not have that time? As far as "worthy of a wish", I'm only referring to how it would affect spellcasting. If a Wish were used to completely "restore" a character, it would also heal HP damage, ability score damage, cure negative levels, remove...

    Auto-Quicken Spell + Multispell + Time Stop + Wish = Cheese (Time Stop+Wish Argument)

Didn't I state mine would be the unpopular opinion? :D <sarcasm>It's not! Holy hand-grenades, Batman. I'm making me a spell that grants inherent bonuses to ability scores and ditch the XP cost.</sarcasm> Seriously, I disagree. Wish isn't more powerful than other 9ths? Um, ok, then what are...

    Auto-Quicken Spell + Multispell + Time Stop + Wish = Cheese (Time Stop+Wish Argument)

I disagree. The Wish spell lists a variety of effects that are "safe." Meaning the DM "shouldn't" play around with the request, but more powerful requests might only be "partially completed". What I feel is fair for a wish will differ from what you think is fair (hence this is subjective...

    Auto-Quicken Spell + Multispell + Time Stop + Wish = Cheese (Time Stop+Wish Argument)

I dunno. I'm probably the only one here who might disagree on this. I don't find it unreasonable to "pay" 5000 XP to be "restored to full strength". Throw Time Stop out of the picture for a moment. If TS didn't exist, and you had a wizard Wish to be restored to full strength (assume...

    Easier Counterspelling

Just a thought.... allow spellcasters one free counterspell action each round (but you can't counter a counter). Just a thought, no idea how good/bad it is.

    Auto-Quicken Spell + Multispell + Time Stop + Wish = Cheese (Time Stop+Wish Argument)

I already stated this, but having Caliban re-iteratei it is important. Honestly, I really don't understand the whole "instantaneous spell go off and do no damage" argument and I never have. Why would a Fly spell's duration not start during a TS, while a fireball would go off? This stings of...
