    Saving throw to fall prone

Heh. Customer service, in all honesty, tends to give out advice about as good as the first forum poster.. so once the thread has gone on a while you can usually find better solutions.. In this case, either works. It is kinder to keep allowing saves, but it is faster to only allow partial saves...

    A Dragon Ally?

This is actually a point so important that I will bring it right back up again. If you like the idea of skill challenges you shouldn't punish them for it. Making it fairly impractical to have the dragon along all the time is nice, preparing boss-fights to accomodate for them bringing the dragon...

The Quests of Samantha the Red (pictures included-updated 8/5)

Think she made the switch in editions? ;) (Oh, and in all honesty - I loved reading these stories, they were great. Super-duper-inspiring :)

    A Dragon Ally?

I think it is already mentioned in the DMG. Just add the dragons XP value to the shopping pool when creating an encounter, and remove an equal value from the final reward. (I.e., you add monsters just because the dragon is there) And you might want to encourage the dragon and the party to part...

Will taking the same encounter power twice break anything?

Well, I'll be.. By the rules you can upgrade a power to a more powerful one, but not retrain them? But you still can retrain feats to more powerful ones? Hmm.. I think I'll stick to my flawed reading of the rules and allow retraining to higher levels. Still no doubling up on powers, though...

D&D 4E Nonobvious coolness in 4e healing system

Permanent injuries could be dealt upon the second failed death save - making it more urgent to heal people. Should still probably be healed by a "bedrest" - resting one whole day in an inn or well-supplied camp. The first failed death save could mean starting the next day with one healing surge...

    Cloud of Knives kills minions?

Well, the difference would be that by not entering the cloud of daggers they could not die, so it turns from an autokill to a "block area". I actually don't know which is the best way to run it - letting it autokill minions without possibility to escape makes it quite powerful - I might rule...

    Cloud of Knives kills minions?

That is because Cloud of Daggers looks like a poor spell, until you realize that its balancing feature is that it is a good minion-killer/blocker.

    Small wizard with a staff?

I'd put a walking staff as a fancy club, with that damage.

Owlbears are Fey?!? Cold Iron is gone?

Yep. Now they are the result of crazy Eladrin/Fomorian experiments instead ;)

Very first thoughts after reading 4e PHB

Let's see - 3.5 to 4.. BAB is simplified to Wizards progression, spells and saves are simplified and lots of options are added while many things about the classes are the same.. ;) But I like 4Ed so far. It is about as difficult as 1Ed, it plays a lot like 1Ed, but it is less "seat of pants"...

    Yet another multiclassing fix...

Hunter's Quarry should be a daily, it seems. Or you could use the errata that says that it only lasts for one round per encounter..

    Sacrificial Bunnies (Warlock curse question)

Is Derren and Regicide really different people?

You primary stat should never be lower than 18

Umm.. no? Someone always gets their stuff first. Sometimes all will have the same bonuses, but the way parcels are divided this will not always be true. And what is this talk about "every level"? You don't always have to pick from your highest level, and you can retrain upwards/downwards later...

    Combat Challenge and Opportunity Attack

Aah.. the memories of moderately high-leveled fighters in 1Ed that would rush in among a bunch of kobolds and make a "sweep" attack, getting to roll attacks on them all.. Limiting to one OA per round works. Not limiting it works too, since your scenario won't come up that often. (Two, maybe...

    What Good is Corellon's Grace?

Elites and Solos do, though, and against them any help is good help ;)

Warlock minion killer - does this work?

Back to the "only hits can kill minions" as opposed to the current "misses can't kill minions". Does mean that cleave can't kill a minion, though..

    No more dumb fighters?

    Mendicant! ;)

    why are orbs good again?

Actually it is the wizard's choice whether the staff implement is a quarterstaff (two-handed weapon) or a walking stick (not a weapon, just an implement. Possibly useful as a club.). So one-handed wielding is still in.

Help! Wizard spellbooks and encounter spells?

Oh? Well, I sure won't be using that rule. Sure, other classes need to replace powers to get better ones, but wizards are flavored by their book and get to respec nightly. So why remove spells? - I don't think they should get extra encounter spells.. at least not without an extra "expanded...
