    Battle Cleric Options is up

Complaining that an article presents new options that don't fit automatically with an existing character or a particular concept isn't a very strong strike against it. Support for a class or build sometimes buffs existing characters, sometimes it opens up more possibilities for new (or reworked)...

    Battle Cleric Options is up

Fantastic article! I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. Re: no simple Hammers... apparently Moradin favors Warpriests over Battle Priests. That's right, Mearls is telling Dwarf players, God wants you to play an Essentials build.

Purple Index Cards: On-the-Fly Setting and Plot Collaboration

Glad to hear you've enjoyed the purple cards! They're the defining feature of my own game, and I miss them when playing in other campaigns. As for the Achievement cards, yeah, if you look upthread a bit you'll see I ditched them entirely after a while. I still think they're a neat idea, but...

Dragon 400: Born of Shadow Themes

By my reading, you can still benefit from the Evard's feature attack using a ranged attack, you just have to be adjacent to your target when you do so. Not an uncommon situation for Warlocks doing the flank+Prime Shot dance, nor unheard of for anybody with Shimmering Armor, I should think. Or am...

    Just how compatible is Essentials?

That would be a fun hack! It wouldn't resemble D&D very much, because it would end up being something more like a point-buy than a class system. And no doubt the optimized-unoptimized spectrum would blow even wider open due to fewer guardrails on things. But I'm picturing a dude smacking...

If it's an obvious choice then it's broken

Do you have a link or book/article quote on this? I've heard this hypothesis now and again whenever the math-patch debates come up, but I don't think I've ever seen it confirmed from the design side.

Do you want variety or bonuses in your feats?

I voted #2, interpreting the first option as having to do with feats that are purely (at least effectively so) mathematical in nature, such as Expertise and Focus. I think those harm the game. I'm also in the camp that would love to see bucketing between combat and non-combat options. Put...

If it's an obvious choice then it's broken

I don't know about the Seeker and Swordmage guides, but it's hard to think of why a character of any role wouldn't at least want to consider those feats, so I'd scratch my head if they weren't included. The main arguments are "hitting is usually better than missing" and "'dead' is the most...

Narrow the gap between multiattacks and many-dice single attacks

For my part, I'm thinking boosting many-dice attacks using the multiplied attribute part of the idea may be more palatable to most and easier to calculate (whether at build/level-up time or on the fly) than the 1/action static mod nerf. I'd have to dig a lot deeper into the numbers to figure out...

D&D 4E Is Paragon Tier the "sweet spot" of 4E? And other ruminations on the tiers

I've run a campaign from 1st level through 17th so far, with the story arcs designed to have major climaxes/breaking points between tiers. Some 10-15 years passed in-setting between Heroic and Paragon, which had the nice narrative effect of making the development of a Paragon Path plausible, let...

    D&D 4E 4e Monster Designer

Oh, very nice. Just having a monster-creation tool that actually does the math correctly would be a godsend; as a DnD4eCM user, having an integrated tool would be even better! Looking forward to it.

    Monster Vault Token Storage

I have the Monster Vault and several of the counter collections from Fiery Dragon. I use photo cases for them, organized alphabetically and by size category (so "Medium ABC" might go in one of the small cases, "Huge E-Z" in another), with a few cases set aside for especially common...

    Essentials multiclassing playtest?

There used to be a very simple way, then they took it out by removing the level from the power. It's a head-scratching design decision, but it seems intentional that Cavaliers and only Cavaliers get horsies that level up. I agree with those above who said the Pact Blade feat looks like a lot of...

Mordenkainens Magnificent Emporium saved by last minute adventurers?

Yeah, I had a go at using the random treasure system, but it turned out pretty disappointing. You can roll a "treasure" with nothing in it, or get a run of several magic items of the same rarity and level (making it hard to find suitable ones to distribute among slots/PCs, especially if they're...

Narrow the gap between multiattacks and many-dice single attacks

There's two parts to the idea, though: +Ability mod per [W] for non-multiattacks, and static bonuses only applying once per action (per target, I suppose; Twin Striking two different enemies isn't as big a deal). Shouldn't the latter make a difference with what you mention?

Narrow the gap between multiattacks and many-dice single attacks

If intentional, it's not an intention I much care for. Attack powers that roll lots of dice look attractive, enticing players with lower system mastery to take them... but when compared to anything that instead attacks more than once, they swiftly lose out. It's why Twin Strike is the game's...

Narrow the gap between multiattacks and many-dice single attacks

Totally half-baked idea here... Ability mod is the only damage bonus that can “stack” within a single action. When present, it multiplies by the number of dice in the hit. Multiple attacks in the same action always add dice to a final pool that is rolled together. A crit on an individual...

    Epic Save From Fall

    Until, of course, someone points out that Otiluke's Resilient Sphere is a single-target power, so in by-the-book 4e, it couldn't have saved the whole party. Alas, we need to find our counterarguments elsewhere ^.^;

Mordenkainens Magnificent Emporium saved by last minute adventurers?

How would specific monster parts etc. not be a way of putting control into the DM's hands? It just removes it by a step--the DM controls access to the components or rituals rather than access to the items themselves.

Mordenkainens Magnificent Emporium saved by last minute adventurers?

Yeah, the Fourthcore Armory has something of a "rare item = plot item" design to it in many cases (World-Rending Axe of Total Devastation, Horn of the Final Legion...). Square Fireballs takes more of your standard "magic item, only better" approach.
