Why Should It Be Hard To Be A Paladin?

Y'know, I've always been fond of the overzealous holy warrior, like that in Warhammer and Warhammer 40k. He has holy might that demons fear... but citizens fear him too because if he gets a whiff that they're working for his foes he might get it into his head to smite them. Sure this is more...

    a game of thrones rules

Yep, I was thinking of the Syrio example after logging out yesterday. The power attack/called shot thing actually fits the novels pretty well.

Holy Crap! This book is HUGE!

Yeah, I have the OGL version and I thought that was huge. The DLE is... massive.

    a game of thrones rules

I don't think it's a particular problem. The Accuracy feats will still be valuable since there are things like called shots to vitals. At the same time, I think it boosts the utility of Power Attack, which actually seems a bit weaker in AGoT overall than in DnD, despite the increased importance...

Iron Heroes a flash in the pan?

One other aspect of IH that I think has a lot of misconceptions is that it's not good for roleplaying. Personally, I find it far easier to run in-depth rping with it than with DnD. The simple lack of divination spells that give alignments, detect thoughts, speak with the dead, etc. makes it a...

    Song of Ice and Fire

Yep. It would have been hard for George to really make AFfC as exciting as Storm of Swords, having to cut it down and deal with the aftermath of everything that happened in the last book. But it was still good - and it gives all sorts of little bits of flavor that will help an RPGer game in...

Roleplaying in A Game of Thrones

I love both the courtly intrigue of King's Landing and the danger and powerful history of the north. One thing I want to capture about the books when I DM, though, is how most of the main characters are really important people. They don't just start adventuring at level 1 and work their way up...

    Song of Ice and Fire

Very true. I'm not as big a fan of AFfC as a novel or character study as I am of the other three books. However, it definitely is very useful for someone who wants to explore Westeros more with the RPG. There's a lot of good info in there. And it's still a good story, just not quite Storm of Swords.

    Song of Ice and Fire

I'm likely to adapt the GoT RPG to my own setting, it fits quite well. I've also considered a historical, medieval campaign using the rules. A Roman game would also be very interesting, and have a lot of similar opportunities for political maneuvering.

    Song of Ice and Fire

I'd have to agree. A Feast For Crows was probably my least favorite book. It would have been hard for GRR to get me to like it more, though, since it didn't have Tyrion or Arya (my favorite characters), or anything dealing with Stannis or Melisandre (one of the aspects of the story I'm most...

Teflon Billy has a review up for A Game of Thrones OGL

Yep, good choice Obryn. Teflon nails my view of the GoT RPG. I thought it would likely be a rather boring and overly simple 'non-magic DnD', but it's actually quite varied and complex, though elegant. It really captures the feel of the setting.

    Song of Ice and Fire

Let me tell ya - it just gets better. Clash of Kings is better than Game of Thrones, and Storm of Swords is better than Clash of Kings. I keep getting more excited about roleplaying possibilities for SoIaF - particularly now that I'm eagerly awaiting my copy of A Feast For Crows (the fourth...

    Song of Ice and Fire

The RPG only 'covers' the first book (though it does have bits of information from later), but it also has a pretty comprehensive history section that adds info that we haven't seen yet (well, it may be in A Feast For Crows, I don't know). There are also very extensive writeups for just about...

So anyone get ahold of the A Game of Thrones RPG?

Hey Maester Luwin, ecliptic, and JS, long time no talk since the GoO boards have been down. For a while I'd been thinking I wouldn't get the RPG. I didn't agree with the choice to make the Maester a class rather than a generic scholar, make Godsworn specific to the faith of the Seven, or have a...

    (Discussion) General Part VI

Hi, I just came to officially resign as a player. Sorry to Creamsteak and the other players in the game that I didn't post for a long time without warning. Life got busy and I got out of the habit of posting. I like the site, and if this summer or some other time in the future I have enough time...

OOC: Many apologies, I've been really busy for the last couple weeks with school and trips. I'll need to read up on what I missed, then post as soon as I can.

Groggnir stares blankly at the contract."We s'posed to write our names?" He looks a bit embarassed and lets his brother sign for both of them. "Now tell us plan, yes!"

(Tavern) City of Orussus, The Red Dragon Inn V

The door creaks open slowly and a man enters. He is tall and very muscular, wearing pristine chain armor with a halberd slung over his back. Other than his equipment everything about him is ragged. His black hair is unkempt, and looks as if his method of a haircut was to simply chop the back...

Groggnir squints suspiciously at the dwarf. "I not hurt you as long as you not try to hurt me! Dwarf-men hurt us goblins bad, I know. Might even draw blood before I cut you in half." As if he hasn't just mentioned cutting him in half in a fight Groggnir suddenly grins and extends a hand to the...

(Adventure) In Service of Orussus (dpdx judging)

"You very confusing, human!" exclaims Groggnir. "You talk about things we not know about." Despite his short legs Groggnir seems to have no trouble keeping up with the others. In fact in his impatience he keeps moving ahead, then sighing and turning around to wait. OOC: Sorry for the delay, I...
