( I’ve not read this whole thread, just the original post, apologies if this is already covered or if topic has already drifted to something else)
two changes since ‘the old days’ that I see….
… game rule options being presented in player-aimed books. Giving players more direct hand in...
As long as there is a reasonable in-story context/justification for the time limit on an adventure then frankly I’m all for it as it keeps game with forward motion and PCs get a bit more active rather than passive in their activities
There’s some chit chat but we basically get in to ‘game mode’ when the DM gets to ‘alright, so a brief recap of last time…’. Or ‘so we left off in the middle of investigating the cavern….’
so, basically by DM stating a recap, however big or small that recap is.
( well, ok when another player is...
( I know ep 2 out today, but having only seen ep 1 so far)
My nephew watching with me asked if the ‘mothers voice mail’ was just a voicemail to nick fury to show him at a tag at the end of the season to show him at a desk listening to messages. ;)
While overly complicating it how about …
1- 5d6 drop two lowest
2 - 4d6 drop lowest
3 - 3d6
Then Arrange the six as desired
thus six stats with one likely to be higher, two likely to be above average, and 3 that are likely to be average
(If it wanting to keep terminology in terms of 3d6...

Nostalgia but also it had cultures I was easily able to grasp and extrapolate on the fly when DMing. Also the concept of the hollow world stuff was a great way of taking old cultures and keeping them alive for PCs to interact with the society and have a bit of fish out of water...
OP here. Thank you all. I really appreciate the suggestions. Gives me good food for thought to play around with this week as I work out the details for that showdown. ( they are still dealing with Libra’s Second in command, from which they should get clues to get to Libra itself .)
already...
While important questions, don’t worry about level or edition etc. I know my players well enough to work out scaling.
that said, narratively I’ve written myself in to a corner: 12 villains, pseudo representing the 12 western zodiac (Aries, cancer, Gemini, etc.) each each expressing a trait...
I am neutral on CR but that is a ME thing as I can’t watch/listen to others play d&d, any group/system/etc but have nothing against them if others do. People having fun, that’s all there is to it.
But I certainly appreciate that it has brought consumer attention to the hobby, particularly from...
If keeping this very simple plot wise:
on side of road while /traveling camping, PCs are set upon by road bandits.
Not long after a rival group of road bandits comes along
both bandits have a reason to get money/weapons/etc from PCs (both for the profit as well as for showing dominance over...
…. That moment when you look at this poll, start doing math in your head, and remember that , wow, I’ve been doing this a really long time and I’m really old…. :ROFLMAO:
And that this thread is also old, relatively speaking as threads go….
I say all this as a person of color. While I appreciate a space for recognition, I really wish the main marketing for this was not so much about the color of those writing and creating, and talked a bit more about the content
The one main piece of the content that i see in there is that it...
Using natural language to describe mechanics usually leads to questioning intent/raw/rai/etc.
so I concede that there is wiggle room for a couple interpretations (as is evident by there even being this thread discussion)
that said, if this came up at my table -as a DM or as a Player- I would...
Whether this is what you’re thinking or not, that’s how it was listed on 4e sheets: str con dex int wis cha ( the pairings how the affected the different defenses)

Gozer (sorry, looking at your screen name I had to go there)
Not having seen this I can't say if what sort of logic it is using BUT based on your notes here I was reminded of a next generation episode called Parallels (link Parallels (episode) )where it has Worf traveling between parallel worlds and the sci described in that is that each parallel...
The main story of the most recent session was fairly benign.... party hired to find a missing man, which turned in to rescuing him from orcs.
The "B" story lines however ...

-I (personally, my group) will not play this more than 2 people as (the way we play) feels like too long /unengaging between turns. but i admit that could very well me a 'my group' problem.
