Legolas in D&D (using the Elements of Magic!)

He also needs Arrow Stab (I forget what book this is in, maybe Swashbucklers)? And an ability to see about 30 leagues away, heh. "Crebines from Dunland!" - Legolas.

Need advice to speed up combat...

We use a plastic grid (1 inch squares) as our battle-matt. We bought plexi glass and drew the lines on with a sharpie. Works very well, I definately suggest those who use grids to try this. Since it is clear, we can place cut-out stuff under it (like grass, chasms, rooftops to simulate a...

Need advice to speed up combat...

Our humble group of players has steadily rose from 6 (this is including the DM) to about 9. With one more joining us at the beginning of the new year. With 9 people to DM for, things will start to slow down considerably, especially when it comes to combat. I was wondering if anyone has any...

How much of gears shall I give to 1st-level warrior?

If you are making guards I would think that whomever they are working for is suppling them. Or do the guards need to spend their own money on equipment. If the guards are working for a duke (for example) then their equipment should probably be paid for by the Duke, or more appropriately, the...

How a DM can counter cheesy PC tactics w/o using cheesy DM tactics.

You are probably right dkilgo. It is getting a bit boring now. I just think it would be foolish though to give up on a tactic that works so well. Winning a combat by using cheesy tactics = boring. However, gaining easy exp = fun. Hehe. This is from memory, so bare with me. I may have...

How a DM can counter cheesy PC tactics w/o using cheesy DM tactics.

Then I would have a minor quibble with some of the things the DM is throwing at us. We are running the RttToEE, which I suppose wouldn't be considered Core Rules either. So if you expect the players to use only what is found in the Core Rules, so should the DM. Which leaves out some creatures...

How a DM can counter cheesy PC tactics w/o using cheesy DM tactics.

We haven't played in a few weeks now, but from what I remember, the encounters we ran into where we used this tactic were: (Note: There are 4 people in the game, A Cleric, a Rogue, a Monk and a Sorcerer) A wyvern A giant of some sort (Hill giant I think) Two Ogres A band of about 10 Rogues (no...

Where to put my level 8 bonus attribute point?

Because I fight on a mount, I use one hand for the shield I use and the other for the light lance. If I use a two-handed weapon, I'll have to lose my magic shield and at the moment I'll only gain 1 extra damage out of it. Between Smite, Spirited Charge and Divine Sacrifice that extra 1 point...

Does a Death Ward Protect against Phantasmal Killer?

Still wondering if you think death by a summoned creature is death effect.

How a DM can counter cheesy PC tactics w/o using cheesy DM tactics.

The problem is the spell is NOT 5th level (how did we get to 5th level all of a sudden? I thought the consensus was to up it to 4th level, suddenly it's 5th now?) it is a 3rd level spell. We play the game how the rules are written and don't like to change things and make house rules. There is...

How a DM can counter cheesy PC tactics w/o using cheesy DM tactics.

"Heart of Nightfang Spire" is designed for a party of level 10s. "Deep Horizons" is designed for a party of level 13s. I would expect at level 10 and 13, this tactic wouldn't work too well. So of course most of the encounters in there will be un-hindered by our tactic.

How a DM can counter cheesy PC tactics w/o using cheesy DM tactics.

The way the battles work out is usually in our favor. The Rogue holds the coin, and when we are approached by enemies, the Rogue exposes the coin shedding Darkness. I fail to see how this is easy to counter. As someone pointed out, you can't dispel what you can't see. You can't hit (very...

    Paladin's Divine Grace

So if I took a level of Paladin, then went into Forsaker, I'd still get the Divine Grace?

    Paladin's Divine Grace

Is a Paladin's Divine Grace considered a spell-like ability, super-natural ability or extraordinary ability or none of the above? I can find where it states one way or the other.

    Discern Location vs Mind Blank

Would a Retriever (demon in the MM) be able to use it's locating ability to find someone that was wearing an Amulet of Proof Against Detection & Locaiton? Would the Retriever need to roll (as per the Amulet states) or does it's ability to locate surpass the amulet's ability to hide itself (and...

Where to put my level 8 bonus attribute point?

But I don't qualify for second level Paladin spells yet, and I may never at this point. So the Wis won't really help me in that regard. I'm not so concerned with the +1 to Ranged combat since my weapon of choice there is the Sling (uberweapon of the gods, heh).

Where to put my level 8 bonus attribute point?

Playing a Gnome Paladin (Level 6) / Illusionist (Level 2) with the following attributes: Str 13 +1 Dex 13 +1 Con 16 +3 Int 13 +1 Wis 13 +1 Cha 16 +3 I plan to go one more level in Illusionist to get 2nd level spells. Then I am going Spellsword =) I can't decide...

    Spell Mastery and multi-class Wizards...

I can't memorize it, prepare, cast it or scribe it in my spell book as a Wizard. Nor is the spell found on my Wizard's spell list. I agree with all this. But my CHARACTER knows Flame Blade. And since my character would be both Druid and Wizard, I'd say what one "knows", so does the other...

    Spell Mastery and multi-class Wizards...

Hmmm, I didn't think about the Empower aspect. Could you also maximize it? So instead of rolling 1d8 you do a straight 8 points of damage (with whatever the pluses would be at at that level)? What about Permanent Spell?
