Am I Crazy? Help me find an article

Well, drat. I guess I must be nuts. I could've sworn up and down that I saw this article somewhere in my misspent youth. Perhaps I just dreamed about it. Last call for anyone to confirm or deny my sanity! Please help!

Am I Crazy? Help me find an article

I was thinking about some of the Dragon Magazines I used to read back in the day, and I could swear that I remember one particular article - I believe it was in the "Ares" section (back when Dragon used that) and was part of one of the April Fool's issues. The article itself was a humorous look...

Tips Needed: Gaming in a Large Group (8+ PCs)

When it comes to weeding folks out of a large group, I don't think that character death is a good method. I don't think it's right to penalize someone for bad luck, choosing a low-hit dice class, or having a less-than-stellar Constitution score. Consider what kinds of players you want to keep...

Tips Needed: Gaming in a Large Group (8+ PCs)

We could always have a fistfight - last five gamers standing get to play! :) Seriously, maybe you could set the first hurdle as arriving at the game - anyone who doesn't make the first session is OUT.

    The bring back Birthright thread!

Birthright is the setting that I credit most with my continued fascination with D&D. At first, I dismissed the setting as "that place where you play as kings", but after reading through the booklets in the boxed set, I was hooked. No other setting has ever affected quite as much as Birthright...

Your biggest screw-up as a DM?

When it comes to worst DM screw-ups, I've got two: Screw-Up #1: A long-running Birthright campaign had been doing just fine for over a year and I was getting ready to end one story arc and begin another. The idea was to have the PCs confront one of the main bad guys of the campaign setting...

Looking for D&D in Frederick, MD

I just thought I'd mention Destan's game again as well - he's looking for a few more players! Destan's running in Leesburg on Wednesday nights from around 7:30 - 11:30 p.m. and we could use a few more warm bodies, er, capable roleplayers!

How does your group handle a character's Hit Points?

I liked this method a lot as well, but recently I've experienced the fixed amount per level method and I think I prefer that one slightly more. Our DM gave us max HP at 1st level and then 1/2 max (including the .5, rounded up every other level) every level afterwards -NO ROLLING. I think it...

What mechanic do you use to determine ability scores?

For me, it's all point-buy, all the time. I very much prefer the 32 point buy as my favorite way to generate ability scores, both as a player and as a DM.

I'm extremely grateful for everyone's participation in this thread. It seems I've gone from a desert of gamers to a lush and pleasant oasis of games all around me :) I hope everyone will be a little patient with me - my home PC's motherboard just melted down the other night (right as all the...

Wow, look at all the replies to this thread! Sniktch (being a GW employee I love your user name), no worries about hijacking the thread - this is a discussion forum after all! I appreciate your concerns, though, and I'm really glad you chose to speak now rather than wait. Can you tell me more...

Sins of Our Fathers II - New Art Uploaded - 1/25

Destan, Let me add my voice to the many others here to say how impressed I am by your writing skills and your story hour. I'm a rather discriminating reader (some call me PICKY), as your story hour makes only the second I have ever followed (after Piratecat's). I plan to be at GenCon and will...

Have you been published? Share your experiences here.

My beginnings are shrouded in mystery...well, no, they're not, but it sounds niftier that way. I began by freelancing my talents to Hero Games and Atlas Games on a few products, mostly kept my hand in by doing magazine articles, and eventually I graduated to working on sourcebooks and campaign...
