Creating a character the old fashion way

IIRC, I tried to copy and paste from the builder and it wouldn't let me. I will try that again. Crunchy bits... that's exactly what I am looking for. I am not looking to circulate this. It's pretty much just going to be for me and my group to expedite character creation without the builder. We...

Creating a character the old fashion way

That's not exactly what I am looking to put together. I want to type up something that minimizes my flipping through the book while making a character. Like it will have a list of things like racial traits or class traits. You would still need the book to pick powers, but things like "Eladrin...

Creating a character the old fashion way

While Character Builder is great, I personally prefer to make my Essentials characters the old fashion way, like I have been doing for decades. I roll them up. Now, for Encounters, I am using the specialist array from HotFL just to keep it consistent. For the home games, it's always 4d6, remove...

Looking for hotel advice for Gen Con 2011

First, I would like to say thanks to everyone for a lot of good tips and info. If money were not the issue I would certainly stay at a connected hotel. I have done that at other conventions I have been to and the convenience is such a benefit. Realistically, I know it is going to be tough to...

Looking for hotel advice for Gen Con 2011

I haven't quite worked the budget yet, but I do appreciate the tip about the construction and the transit. I am seeing prices of $165 a night which I think is mega-outragous considering you just need the room for a nap and a shower.

    Gaming, Adults, and Growing Up

My friend, please listen to what I have to say but in the end make your own decision. I have not read the replies, only you original post. I WAS you 20 years ago. My wife pretty much told me the same thing. She is now my ex-wife. My hobby was not the only reason we got divorced, however, she...

Looking for hotel advice for Gen Con 2011

It looks like for the first time in my 40 years of life, I may be going to Gen Con next year. I have done a lot of searching on the net for tips. I have found all I need concerning eating, scheduling, sanitation, shopping, etc. What I seem to not be finding in the level of detail I am seeking...

DM question re: "Survival Days" in Dark Sun Encounters

The way my DM explained to our group, each "survival day" is enough food rations and water for one player to stave off hunger and thirst for one day out in the desert of Athas. I am sure there will be some sort of penalties and endurance checks once the party runs out of these.

Classic Six: The Game Inside OD&D

I like the concept. I am going to have to take a closer look at the numbers before I give a better opinion. I am not a fan of high level play so this might work for me.

    Crash Course in 4th ed.

Yes, thanks for the info. I am glad I was able to play before I tried to DM. There were some things that did not seem to click when reading the book but made sense in actual play. I don't know if I said this already, but I almost wish the 4e rulebooks were complete straight reference with no...

Interesting comment on Lethality. I am going to have to give 4e a more in depth experience in a campaign to get a better feel. Thanks for the links. Already on the Wizs group and seen the Robot Chicken D&D videos.

I am starting to get the hang of it. Note, I am only a player. I was unable to DM due to real life stuff taking my time. Last week's skill challenges seemed a little weird to me. This week's work. The challenge was to get the imp thing to be friendly. We almost lost out. Once we succeeded the...

I will give it that credit of a very good tactical wargame. In the past I tried Warhammer Fantasy but am not a fan "units" (as opposed to man-to-man). So, tried and liked the LOTR game by GW but don't have the money or the time to get involved in that gem. Playing 4e gave a good tactical battle...

I would disagree. I remember the first time I played 1e and it was with a bunch of strangers at a school event. The thing I remember the most is saying "where is the board?" ;)

    Crash Course in 4th ed.

I got to play on Wednesday. Here is a mini review I sent to Meepo. I was a player and not the DM. Long story on that point but it worked out. --- My quick review: 4E seemed to be fun, but it did not seem to be a RPG. It seemed to me like a cross between Heroscape and Magic. (NOTE: that's not an...
