    D&D 5E Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

I'm interested in reading. This fight was easier than I expected with the bard winning initiative. Once the gnome was able to move forward and start countering, their abilities were neutralized.

D&D 5E When -5/+10 starts becoming Very Reliable?

The math on both feats has been computed at least two times that I know showing that Sharpshooter and GWM used intelligently and supported by casters is a a huge damage boost over those that cannot use the feats. It is not a 1.8 damage increase. If you want to see an example of Sharpshooter in...

D&D 5E When -5/+10 starts becoming Very Reliable?

Didn't the math with bless and advantage against varying ACs get worked out showing that it was effective against very high ACs?

I'll calculate DPR for a few rounds next week. See what they actually do and post it.

    D&D 5E JUIBLEX

Let me think. Last time using smites and oathbow with eldritch blast. Probably somewhere in the 200 plus range when fully uncorked smiting and the like. The bladesinger's AC gets to 26 before he uses shield with haste and shield of faith. He has a 16 int and 18 dex. He has room to boost.

D&D 5E When -5/+10 starts becoming Very Reliable?

Noooooo, not again. Zard, can't you dig up one of the old threads with all the math proving your point?

D&D 5E Chill touch vs Troll regeneration

Spell slots are precious. When you can cast a cantrip to do a few d8 plus x (where x equals the regeneration number) when you take into account shutting down regeneration, you do that every round because it is effective as casting a 2nd or higher level spell for free. I wouldn't cast...

D&D 5E Chill touch vs Troll regeneration

I believe in 1st edition trolls were like this. It's been a long time. I remember having to find and burn every piece of a troll. If you left even a finger or lump of flesh laying about, a new troll was going to grow.

D&D 5E Chill touch vs Troll regeneration

The only idea you've illustrated is that you don't have much experience with chill touch against creatures that have hit point regain effects as a key part of their defenses. First, that's not how it works for all creatures. Second, preparing a torch is a lot more difficult than using a...

D&D 5E Chill touch vs Troll regeneration

In my experience, it does. Then again my players use the tactic I stated. They focus fire on the creature with the mage using chill touch to keep it from regaining points. They do this against enemy priests that try to heal themselves. They did against two Legendary Creatures that had healing...

D&D 5E Chill touch vs Troll regeneration

Yes. I always take chill touch if I'm able. It has more than the advantage you speak of. It has good range. It does d8 damage. It shut down all healing, so good against not only regenerators, but anyone with a healing effect. That means if a creature has a healing effect, you can shut it down...

    D&D 5E JUIBLEX

This is a particularly potent party with high stats and extraordinary magic items. Not a good baseline for boosting. I wanted to make this a legendary campaign, so the PCs are stronger than you would find point buy. You can go to the characters by following the link in my signature. That's the...

    D&D 5E Design Debate: 13th-level PCs vs. 6- to 8-Encounter Adventuring Day

Flamestrike, I'm going to need to know the distance down the hallway from Encounter 2. One death slaad ran to lead the party into the golem. He managed to escape. We need to follow him down the tunnel. How far to the next area.

D&D 5E Chill touch vs Troll regeneration

How does that work? Because you can only concentrate on one at a time which is likely what will be happening anyway? Troll regeneration is as weak as it has ever been. Fire, acid, or chill touch cantrip can shut them down. Your choice. Why did they even bother spending the space to write the...

D&D 5E Chill touch vs Troll regeneration

No. It is not an over-reaction. I often wonder why I have to explain this. Here is the sequence: 1. Regenerating or healing creature. 2. Focus fire. Chill touch. Dead. 3. Next creature. 4. Focus fire, Chill Touch. Dead. Doesn't matter if its a troll, Strahd, Juiblex, or the like. A cantrip...
