D&D 5E Will you pay $50.00 for the "standard" PHB?

I'm undecided. But not because of the price, but because only the Starter Set will tell me whether I realy want it or select one of the many old versions when startng a new D&D campaign.

D&D 5E Initial D&D Next Releases Showing Up on Barnes & Noble Website

Concerning the price in FLGS': Just being curious here. Does US law prohibit the publisher to grant different customers different discounts? If not, WotC could make special offers to FLGS to enable them to compete with the big online players. Something like 12 or 24 copies for 70% discount...

D&D 5E Initial D&D Next Releases Showing Up on Barnes & Noble Website

I'd call US$ 50 for a book I use for 4-5 years of gaming still a good deal. But still, if WotC wants to sell me a copy, they'd better make a good Basic Game first. Without any need for 5e I'll just drop US$ 20 to chack it out.

If you heard the term "crunch renaissance"...

First reaction: negative. And as it was meant to test the phrase, I'll leave it at that.

D&D 5E Skills from an old Legends & Lore article by Mike Mearls?

I like this static way since Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 1e, where possession of a skill meant that a character can do things. If he knows Apothecary, he'll be able to find and identify valerian without rolling as long as it exists here. WFRP added stat rolls to the show for tasks with possible...

Temple of the Elemental Evil -> Eberron

Hello, DM Eberron D and welcome to ENWorld! Just give us the link in a non-parsable form like "www (at) this-site (dot) com" and we know what you're talking about! Right now I have a hard time placing ToEE in Eberron, as the premise with the Elemental Evil and the imprisoned Demon Queen...

How much television do you watch in a week?

1-3 hours per week should be correct when averaging over a year. Many weeks it either nothing at all or a 90-minutes episode of the German TV show Tatort. Sometimes you could add a TV production film. Thi ssummer my TV consumption will soar with the FIFA Soccer World Championship. I absolutely...

    D&D 3E/3.5 Silver Marches 3E campaign book

I had DMed a 3.5 campaign in the Silver Marches, based almost exclusively on this book. The only extension used was Luskan (from an older 2e supplement), to tie several plotlines to the mages there. You can get a lot of play from the book. Orcs, werecreatures, lost dwarven citadels, politics in...

Are you cooler than your parents?

I sincerely hope that my children (close to 15 and 12) find me uncool! They need something to distinguish them from their parents, making the forebears inherently uncool. And I hope that some time in the future they realize how cool I am, acknowledging the difference and evaluating me in...

New, Low Budget Conan Film in Production

Anorexic? I wouldn't call him that. And much better with an angualr face like him than sopme pudgy mountain of muscles. :)

One world for all your campaigns, or do you set campaigns in different settings each time?

I use several worlds according to the intended style and tone of the campaign: Greyhawk, FR, Eberron, parts of Mystara, Ptolus, Shadowworld, and the yet-to-be-defined own worlds. I'm not so much invested in any one of these, so canon purists would probably throw up their breakfast. These...

New, Low Budget Conan Film in Production

Well, doesn't look to bad as Conan, does he? And as professional ice hockey player he should be able to take some punishment without resorting to stunt men. ;)

What tv shows do you own on Dvd?

building resources before spending in D&D

Sovereign Stone had a similar system for spellcasting. Each round the caster would make a spellcasting role (1d20 + spell casting bous). Each spell has a so-called Casting Threshold which you had to reach for your casting to be complete. Casting rolls during subsequent rounds were added, so you...

    Would you work...

Generally yes, as I have no moral problems with porn. If there'd be an option, I'd look carefully at the business model and the code of ethics of the company. The end result would pretty sure be "no". This would be one of the very last options I'd try. Besides being a horrible salesman, I...

A first look at the Nations board-game (rules & concepts, pictures)

Great play report and (first shot) review, MerricB! Like you I still have to win a game of Nations, which can be pretty frustrating. Last week I played Persia-B with three spaces for colonies, only there weren't enough colonies offered. Military strength is indeed very important when compared...

Do you use henchmen in your D&D campaign?

If I recall correctly, 1e henchmen had to be of lower level than the character he's connected to. So the poor character has to survive the lowest level without any help. Why start looking for help when you've grown stronger.:) Somehow it didn't came to be. In my childrens' game using 2e I...

    OD&D The Beauty of OD&D

Well, you had this spellcasting restriction in pre-3e as well; a "minimum Intelligence to cast spells of level x" is traditional, Also, don't forget the ability restrictions for character classes, e.g. the required Charisma of 17 for a Paladin. Ummh, but, disregarding the sub-classes for this...

    D&D 5E Closed Playtest Reports

But, but ... this is completely useless without a detailled "offspring" system which lets you create children based on the outcome of the "romantic" susbsystem! This could take character optimization to a whole new level!

    Work dress codes
