    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

It would work better, but the problem is, where do you get a battlemat of staggered squares? Hexes and squares are easy enough to come by.

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

But that's not where the monster is standing. Given the position of the monster and fighter, where should the wizard stand on this 8x9 board? In 3.5, there was an answer, in 4E there isn't.

    D&D 4E Non-Euclidean Geometry in 4E?

They cause problems where buildings are involved. If you're in a dungeon or a tavern, the walls probably do not overlay well on a hex grid. Even if you just plunk down the map on the grid and deal with it, you're likely to have some trouble getting used to drawing straight lines on the hex...

What classes will be in the martial power book?

Yes please. I have a serious need for a solid, dedicated steampunk/clockwork tech supplement for D&D.

What classes will be in the martial power book?

I like occult as an adjective, like Occult Warrior or Occult Slayer. I've never been that fond of the pseudo-scientific naming conventions Bruce Cordell uses, and occult carries a lot more "mysterious powers" flavour without exactly treading on the arcane "magic is understandable" shtick. Old...

What was so bad about DMing 3x?

And there are so many full-caster PrCs out there that it's madness to stay in Wizard or Sorcerer if you can get into a class with actual class abilities.

A worry about "special case monster abilities"

Do we know how long it takes for action points to refresh? It costs you chances at hitting. You tried a stunt and missed because of the -5 you took to your to-hit. You lost a round worth of attacking on a failed gamble. Sounds like a cost to me. I'll just assume that by now you've read my...

A worry about "special case monster abilities"

Then don't put it in the core.

What classes will be in the martial power book?

So a barbarian that does stuff like swinging to hit multiple enemies, stunning enemies with his mighty blows, and using things like knockback and trip in an area around him, would be a martial controller? Sounds reasonable.

A worry about "special case monster abilities"

What if you have a knife stuck in his or her neck, or--as the bugbear presumably does--a lariat around it? I think that might make your hostages more inclined to move where you want them to, or at least less able to resist being yanked around roughly into position to intercept a blow. Besides...

A worry about "special case monster abilities"

Which is exactly the reason why a stunt system would be a super addition to the game in a non-core book, perhaps a book that focuses on martial powers. I wonder how long it will take for them to write such a book... ;) Being non-core would allow those who like a high degree of niche...

A worry about "special case monster abilities"

Why would they make it so that it doesn't cost anything? I've already said that I'm taking things like Book of Iron Might as my basis for comparison. In that system you give up one thing in order to get a chance at doing another. For example, you give up the ability to do damage to an...

A worry about "special case monster abilities"

But do you think that the people shooting at you had a harder time because you had cover? Isn't that the point of trying to get cover behind objects? If the object happens to be another body, isn't it pretty much the same as taking cover behind a human-shaped obstacle, aside from the wiggling...

A worry about "special case monster abilities"

True. So, why would they make a stunt system that can replicate powers normally assigned to class powers? A stunt system should allow you to do all the stuff that isn't covered by class powers, or let you do things that sort of resemble class powers but are watered-down versions of them...

A worry about "special case monster abilities"

I don't know if anyone has said this yet, but I don't think we'll see a Meat Shield power outside of the monster manuals. I think what we'll see is a stunt system akin to the Book of Iron Might, Iron Heroes, etc. Better to generate a simple core system for adjudication of weird manoeuvres...

What was so bad about DMing 3x?

<off topic> I run a lot of published modules, and I prefer to run them unmodified if possible, since I don't have a lot of time to do modifications. The thing is though, if I knew that my party would walk all over an encounter because they were packing a metric tonne of magic missiles, I'd just...

    Megahuck

^^^ wins the thread. Also, thanks HeavenShallBurn. I knew about the damage table, but I didn't know that there was a weight -> category rule in there. That's exactly what I was looking for.

What was so bad about DMing 3x?

These things don't need to be in the statblock in order to be there, ready for the DM to use.

    GSL: Necromancer Games SOL?

That's the funny thing about copyright: you can't copyright an idea. If she had copy-pasted The Hobbit, replacing all instances of "Bilbo" with "Bailey" et cetera, there would probably be grounds for a suit. However, I could write a story about a guy who grows up in a remote agricultural...
