D&D 4E Monte Cook on licensing (and 4E in general?)

He may be happy with it, but perhaps he is missing out on 4E? As mentioned before, BoEM had a lot of 4e-like things. Maybe a system built from scratch with these ideas would be better?

D&D 4E Monte Cook on licensing (and 4E in general?)

I've always had the impression that many 3rd party publishers really sold a lot at GenCon. Is that true? If so, is the lack of GSL at this point essentially hosed those publishers anyways? Can you publish something of quality in less than 5 months?

D&D 4E Monte Cook on licensing (and 4E in general?)

That's not how I read it. "Even if I wanted to do 4E stuff, and to be honest I really don't, ...". He does not wish to do anything in 4E. Additionally, even if he did, the licensing situation stinks. Even if he were able to make bread, he does not wish to. So, written off may be too...

D&D 4E Monte Cook on licensing (and 4E in general?)

You are probably right :) Agreed. My implied criticism is that it is too early to write it off, particularly from someone that has always struck me as a reasonable and respectable opinion leader. I hope he looks at it and thinks "Well, this is an improvement. I think I can do something cool...

D&D 4E Monte Cook on licensing (and 4E in general?)

I have not seen it, but everything I read about it gave me the same impression. Surely that says something about the limitations (I shall not call them flaws ;)) of 3E? More importantly, if Ptolus is so awesome, why not do an FR-style update in the new edition? Maybe not immediately, and...

D&D 4E Monte Cook on licensing (and 4E in general?)

So Monte Cook doesn't seem pleased about the 4E licensing (near the bottom): http://montecook.livejournal.com/140809.html I can understand, but he just spent the preceding X paragraphs explaining how he loved the PDF distribution. It seems that he is on the leading edge of a low cost way to...

How Are You Passing the Time Until June?

    D&D 3E/3.5 [4e bits in 3.5 report] Skill Challenges

Keefe, I think you are right about the poor skill selection of your PCs. IMC, I have 5-6 players every session and they have a pretty diverse set of skills. I haven't done a straight up skill challenge like this, but I have become really leniant on the use of the skills and found that the...

    D&D 4E 4E: BBEG's Redemption?

I had much the same problem in my 3e campaign. Final boss died in 2 rounds (freakin' archmage... :( ) However, I plan on finishing the Shackled City Adventure Path in the next 2 months and I really like the final BBEG. He is a completely new monster and that means the PCs don't know how to...

will wizards of the coast do D&D classics in 4th ed

Against the Giants would be so awesome. But what would also be neat is if they took the next step after SKR's 25th anniversary update. What happens after the cloud giants are defeated? The country probably has roving bands of giants everywhere and that might be a neat enough setting for a one...
