How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

Really depends on the genre of the game. If I'm playing Call of Cthulhu feeling overpowered would be detrimental to the experience, both as a player or a Keeper, unless it was seconds before they went mad on the power and were dragged into an alternate dimension or destroyed the world. If I'm...

    Any AI Gamemasters Out There?

True but could you see an AI taking over the GM role so that all the people could play together?

OSR Any Actual Plays with PoC for OSR Games?

I guess because it's a PoC talking about their rpgs which seem OSR since it seems based on older systems. But they maybe should have made that clearer considering the title of it.

GMing: How to fudge NOT using the dice.

Picking rather than rolling on random monster tables could be considered fudging but most random tables suggest picking as an option so not sure if it is really fudging.

2025 Monster Manual to Introduce Male Versions of Hags, Medusas, and Dryads

and orcs aren't people, and while not friends they were created by an evil god, but it didn't stop that being problematic. But D&D's your game not theirs so if you want none fiendish gnolls that aren't inherently evil, and/or orcs that are, there is literally nothing to stop you doing that.

D&D General what would a standard human pantheon look like?

Seems to me if you are going pantheon route this is a good way to go, if you want to keep alignments as part of D&D. However personally I would have Death as Lawful Neutral, it is something that just follows the rules, it isn't evil. However a number of folks are all for getting rid of...

GMing: What If We Say "Yes" To Everything?

Maybe you should edit your original post, as that does seem exactly what is being advocated there, but you've since refined your ideas.

    Favorite Holiday Movie

Sound of Music - It might not officially be a Christmas movie, but it got show so often at that time when I was a kid I consider it one.

    Bad Faith and Sealioning

Generally I do, not that it happens much. But asking bigots why they think what they do is important, both to understanding what motivates them, and in challenging the opinions they hold.

    Bad Faith and Sealioning

Replace "sea mammals" with "ethnic groups" and sea lions "any particular ethnic group", does it come across as a bit rude or a bit racist? She never explains her bigoted views, now admittedly the sea lion hounds her all the way to her bed trying to find out why she has such a poor opinion of...

    Bad Faith and Sealioning

The problem with the original comic, is if you replace the her statement about Sea Lions, with any group (be it by gender, sexuality, race or religion) then the woman is clearly making a bigoted statement, surely members of that group deserve some justification as to why she is being...

What do you use Chat GPT for?

Yeah but you also summed it up by saying So hopefully you can see why they might also believe you think non-neurodiverse people have a low IQ. Also you are misquoting yourself you actually said. But you changed it to or when you defended yourself. It is a small but significant difference...

    Did the nerds win?

I don't think there are any RPGs that have complex maths (well maybe Guns, Guns, Guns the system neutral gun design tool and the Vehicle Design rules in Traveller NE), nothing is harder than a bit of addition, subtraction and rarely a division.

    Did the nerds win?

Sorry I disagree there are loads of groups that haven't moved to 5E because it just doesn't offer then same complexity that they enjoy. There are plenty of RPGs I avoid for long term campaigns because they don't have any real depth in their character generation systems, which I know my players...

    Did the nerds win?

Was it a goal? It makes it sound like there was some deliberate force behind it. Or is it something that's just happened as nerds have grown up and started earning and spending money on things they like and the market responded to that? They have also birthed more nerds that are interested in...

What are you reading in 2024?

Really enjoyed the Thursday Murder Club series by Richard Osman, the group of aging pensioners solving crime from their sheltered housing estate is the sort of pace I want with my thrillers. It's like Miss Marple but with a mixed group of interesting busybodies.

    Did the nerds win?

Who me? Although saying that I just play it, where as a friend across the table will read up on which is the best card to pick at each level, which perks to pick, and different build strategies. So even within the same games there are levels you can take your nerdiness too.

    Did the nerds win?

Oh the maths nerds haven't gone away if you look at all the optimization posts for everything from the relatively simple 5E D&D to even boardgames like Gloomhaven, they still have a home in tabletop gaming.
