Escondido, CA (June 20, 2008) — Super Genius Games (SGG) is proud to announce the release of The Forgotten Tomb of Felgar the Goblin King, the first in their new line One Night Stand adventures suitable for use with any edition of the world's most popular roleplaying game or any other fantasy...
Yeah, common sense says it goes away, but common sense doesn't always win out at the gaming table. The interesting question will be to see if this gets updated for the RPGA where it could really get out of hand.
Hyrum.
I don't know Linae personally (Hi Linae! I'm Hyrum. You don't know me, but I know people you know and vice versa. :>) but I think that comment is a little uncalled for. Both Scott and Linae are working in a structured environment with a lot of stakeholders who have competing interests and what...
You can't call an elf anything but an elf. You'd be better off writing the Kargonesti as a completely new race that looks incredibly similar to the elf in the PHB.
As for referring, it looks like you can just say "Trance, see chapter XX in the PHB" and you can't write out what it does. You also...
IANAL, but that sounds like redefining them to me. You'd have to call them Silvanesti as the racial name, much like eladrin are eladrin and not high elves.
So... Dragonlance characters races would be:
Silvanesti
Qualanesti
Hill Dwarf (and this is dicey, since dwarf is a restricted term)
Human...
The weirdness for me comes from the power text itself:
"To engage the target, you must either attack it or end your turn adjacent to it."
By this definition provided in the description of the power being KO next to your marked foe counts as "engaging."
I think. :)
Hyrum.
Who said anything about evil? :)
All it takes is for a new brand team (the managers of D&D) to not like the idea of the GSL and way it goes. You're then stuck with either dead product at best or a lawsuit at worst.
They might let you sell stuff off, but they don't have to. That's the sticking...
Do marks go away when a character becomes unconscious? And of so, where does it say that? :)
An example: Last night the party paladin marked a goblin archer, but the paladin went down midway through the round. Is the mark still active as long as the paladin is adjacent to the goblin?
Hyrum.
The problem though is that they're making it difficult to do things as easy as adventures by taking away the ability to do stat blocks. WotC can do them, but 3pp can't. If you're a harried GM, whose products are you going to pick up?
And don't get me started on the idea that if another brand...
Legality isn't the issue here. Your ability to pay your (and WotC's) court costs are.
Do you have a lawyer on staff and the legal budget of Hasbro? Are you willing to take on a company that does?
Hyrum.
Yes, and then you get to pay their legal costs whether or not they win in court, or the suit gets dismissed, or they settle, or whatever.
Violating the GSL is any way can potentially damage WotC (according to them) and they then have the right to see damages. What those damages are, and what...
Some of those people freaking out have JD's or incredibly easy access to them. Some have also dealt with contracts for a very long time and know how to read them.
To each their own though. Right now the GSL isn't a license I'm willing to sign on to and it'll take a lot of revisions to make me...
I totally understand. :)
Yeah, but it's MUCH easier to be terminated now, than it was under d20.
Still, the entire license is disappointing, and as it stands right now, it's looking like a deal breaker for me.
Hyrum.
