    Changeover Poll

For me? DMing became difficult at harder levels. I'll allow that is just as possible (if not probable) that it was my problem and not the game's. I also began to dislike the arms race and the preponderance of magic, magic, magic. For my players? The excessive splat books which - again - could...

    Changeover Poll

And this makes me sad. The poll results are inconsequential. I suspect WotC would be pleased if they could turn 50% or more of the hardcore 3e audience into 4e fans (and by 'hardcore' I mean those folks that visit here regularly and own a library's worth of 3e material). But... But anecdotes...

When was YOUR Golden Age of Gaming?

I'm not talking about when the Golden Age was (or is, or will be) for D&D or RPGs or certain companies. I'm talking about you, personally. For me: I'm finding myself spending as much time "daydreaming" about D&D as I ever have in the past. I'm having a blast actually playing the game, so I...

    Changeover Poll

I know I would, and I'm a 4e fan. I feel it a solemn duty of my life's work to pop into all polls on EN World, regardless of results or question, and state how ludicrous they are.* (Of course, I still vote in them. Chalk it up with Oprah, Skittles, and N'Sync in my list o' guilty pleasures.)...

    Changeover Poll

I'm not sure. My wit ended before I could add to that enigmatic ending you quote in my former post. I dig the Burne story hour, btw. Been reading since Destan pointed there in the days of old. WP

    Changeover Poll

You know what, I'm going to stoop to a new internet low and actually argue with myself. After re-thinking that statement, I'd like to disagree. Completely anecdotal here, but there seems to be a decent pro-4e crowd amongst the BECM crew and, to a lesser extent, the 1E AD&D crew. I contend...

    Changeover Poll

I'll start with the standard caveat that all internet polls are craptacular when it comes to providing any meaningful data. (And yes, Psion, this even applies to polls that display results you don't agree with.) That said, I bet this poll is fairly accurate when judging the leanings of the EN...

Help me encourage my "slayers" to roleplay

Drop Jeff and Kyle and watch the the campaign get its RP on. No, I'm not kidding.

    Book Prices...

I distinctly (and fondly) remember heading to the "hobby shop" to grab modules at $6 a pop. Walked in the store with mom and then had to think long and hard to determine just which module I should get - as I'd only get one. Opening and reading those modules (I rarely played any of them)...

Shemeska, what do you think of the 4e MotP?

Pathfinder has a MotP? Not trying to be naive here (I've read quite a bit of PF stuff), but I didn't know they had their own cosmology (or is it The Great Wheel in a different package)? WP

The Dungeon Master or The Rules: why would you play in a RPG campaign?

Amen, Brother Faraer. Amen. Or, in contemporary terms: Hell yeah! *snap* WP

The Dungeon Master or The Rules: why would you play in a RPG campaign?

OK. You got me. I would not game in a group - even with a "great DM" - if said DM leveled a kick at my nuts 88% of the time on my turn. Now...if he hit my nuts, I may be sufficiently impressed enough to stick around. They don't call me Wisdom "Pair o' d4s" Penalty for nothing. WP

The Dungeon Master or The Rules: why would you play in a RPG campaign?

Yes. No question. No brainer. And, me being obtuse, I fail to see how anyone could say "no" to this. The DM is infinitely - infinitely - more important than the system. If he's moving onward, I'd grab onto his coat hold on so long as he'd have me. WP

For former Wizard fans stuck playing 4e...(Forked)

And that brings it full circle to the first post, and that's the situation my group is sitting in. Our one guy (the "wizard guy" from 3e) isn't buying any substitutes. 4e simply does not, nor will it ever (most likely), offer him the same things that he can get from a 3e wizard. Now, this guy...

    Things I don't like about the 4E DMG - part 1 of 1000

I had just finished my Worst Posts of 2008 tour de force, and then you had to go and add this one. Back to drawing board. Dammit.

Do you not play WOW? Forked Thread: Wil Wheaton plays and reviews 4th.

I'm not a WoW guy... ...but if there are things in that game, or any game (board, RPG, computer, or whatever) that can improve my D&D game, sign me up. I'm not haughty. WP

"Stuck" playing 4e (i.e. unwilling converts)

Treebore - you rock! 68th friggin' level? If we hit 18th (back in the 3E days) I was grasping for air at such altitudes. :) And about my player who prefers 3e wizards: He's not immature or power hungry. Far from it. And I feel badly if my post seemed to convey that. When we played 3e, he very...

"Stuck" playing 4e (i.e. unwilling converts)

If you find the Right Answer, I'll pay you for it. I'm in two groups. One was a blessedly easy switch - everyone was ready and willing to try something new. The other...the other group has some hold-outs. Er, actually, we're down to just one hold-out, as the other two guys have jumped onboard...
