    piracy is a problem

People keep claiming that piracy won't hurt 4E, because the people who want to play 4E have already decided to buy the books anyway. Where it will hurt is with the people who are on the fence about switching to 4E, who are preordering out of curiosity but may cancel their preorders once they...

    Core Handbook Errors Discussion

Does "turning the whole game into nothing more than a slightly expanded version of the D&D Miniatures game" count as an error? Because there seems to be almost nothing in the three books that isn't focused entirely on fighting tabletop skirmish battles using plastic miniatures and a battlemat...

    Grognard's First Take On 4e

But how can you have that opinion? You haven't seen "4e" yet, only the preview adventure. That's like judging a movie from a teaser trailer.

    Monster Power Recharge

Thanks for the info, Chris. I knew the whole "rolling once for all powers" idea just couldn't be right.

    Monster Power Recharge

I second this request. Come on WOTC, it would take about ten seconds to post some info on how recharge actually works. Please?

virtual minis: multiple purchases of same creature?

I suspect that the first virtual mini will cost full price, and then if you want additional copies they will be cheaper. I also think there will be "uncommon" and "rare" virtual minis that cost more.

so who else wil also be going for the deluxe edition ?

If I was certain that 4E was going to be 100% perfect and nothing in it was ever going to change, I might spring for the deluxe editions. But since there's certainly going to be errata (if not a whole new 4.5E coming down the pipe) I think I'll wait until the 4E rules have been playtested for a...

    Roll Up a Life Path

Roll, roll, roll. "Hmmm... I'm the father of someone named Luke Skywalker."

    D&D 4E DCC 4e Covers

I've always liked Goodman Games' "old school" style covers. But I suppose they can't keep making retro covers when it's a brand new game.

AOE Spells - 1 attack roll vs. All Targets?

Here's my solution to rolling once for each target... I bought a clear plastic storage box like this, and put one D20 into each compartment. When I need to roll a lot of attacks or saves, I just shake the entire box and then read off as many results as I need. (Which is why it needs to be a...

    Traps: How do they WORK?

"Expedition to the Labyrinth of the Goblin King" perhaps? :D

    Beholder in Seattle

Wow! The stat card that goes with that must be HUGE! :D Seriously though, this is a great marketing stunt. They should tour it all over the country, putting it out in unexpected public places. This is the sort of thing local news channels love to send reporters out to cover and get...

    I made Amazon happy today

"Dungeons & Dragons 4th Edition For Dummies" is scheduled to be released on July 15, 2008, and Amazon has it available for preorder.

    An open letter to DnDInsider

Now THAT'S what I call service! (And notice he even supplied a clever misspelling of the word "immediately" to show the return to disorganization!)

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Delgar, great write up! I'm curious if you were using any sort of markers or cards to keep track of conditions, ongoing damage, powers having been used up, etc. or were you keeping track of it all in your head as you ran this?

    D&D 4E No d100 in 4e?

I'm not sure how much use the D12 is going to see either, even though they're including one of those in the premium dice set as well.

RPG stats for all Dungeons of Dread minis

I saw a thread somewhere that confirmed this. WOTC used the single number format just to save room on the DDM cards. So "4" on the DDM cards and "4 5 6" in the RPG rules mean exactly the same thing, that you need to roll a 4 or better to have that particular power available again.

Deployed Military D&D Game Day! (needs you!)

When Ziggurat Con (Gamegrene coverage, Wikipedia entry) was held June 9 2007 at Camp Adder/Tallil Airbase, a lot of us "stateside" gamers donated books, dice, and miniatures to show support for gamers in uniform. If you could provide an APO shipping address where donations can be sent, I'm sure...

Huge Cover Images from CNET article

The PHB cover makes sense once you read the photo caption: "Redgar and Mialee take first prize in local cosplay contest." Redgar made the armor and sword out of cardboard, and sewed the dragonborn suit out of dragonborn skin. Mialee bought her costume from the local "Loviatar's Secret"...
