    Just saw Logan (spoilers)

Yeah, it's a mystery why anyone would talk about the Marvel Cinematic Universe after a reference to a film in the "Marvel universe". So far 2/3rds of the respondents have assumed he was talking about the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which is a not at all arbitrary distinction and logically...

    Just saw Logan (spoilers)

The Marvel (Cinematic) Universe is a very clearly defined thing, like D&D. Logan, and all the X-Men and Deadpool movies, (and Fantastic Four), are Marvel properties but they are not "in" the Marvel universe of films and tv shows. And I certainly can argue that all Spider-Man films released so...

    Just saw Logan (spoilers)

I'll echo what trappedslider says above. I in no way am questioning or dismissing his opinion of the film in and of itself. Whether or not Logan is part of the MCU is not, however, an opinion. It's not even an "alternative fact". If someone had made this statement: Actually I was disappointed...

    Just saw Logan (spoilers)

So it's not in the "Marvel universe" as referred to by Garamal immediately previous. It might be the best recent movie from a Marvel property, but it's not part of the defined Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's possible the people in charge of the MCU will look at *Logan* and make a few...

    The Expanse

The books are...I don't know that I'd call them deep, or game-changing, but they're *solid*. They are good SF, with alien goop, and people getting spaced, and power armor, and spaceship guns, and all that stuff. It's a lot like a really good D&D campaign in space, I think.

    The Expanse

I read the books, and just reread them in the past month. Frankly, The Expanse is one of the best adaptations I've ever seen. The books are excellent, and the show is, in many ways, even better.

    The Expanse

We've lost satellites in Earth orbit, and Planet X is hiding pretty well. I'm not sweating stealth ships in space. :D

    The Expanse

This has unquestionably hit "must-watch" status for me. It's SF done about as right as can be done. It's incredible.

    Just saw Logan (spoilers)

I've seen it twice now. - There are no (known) plans to do anything with the mutant kids & X-23. The X-Men movies timeline is all kinds of crazy, and Logan seems to have dealt with it by ignoring it and telling the story they wanted to tell. Which I absolutely think was the right call, except...

What are you reading? [March 2017]

2/3rds of the way through it. It's not...fascinating, but pretty easy to just keep chugging along. Finished. About what you'd expect, given that the mcguffin is a bacteria "weaponized" to eat sauerkraut. I got and reread Cibola Burn - was prepared to be all caught up on The Expanse (book)...

What are you reading? [March 2017]

The story behind the Ferris Wheel is pretty awesome. That's what I remember.

What are you reading? [March 2017]

Yeah, but no one gets freaked out by a crappy book. ;)

    I'd call that a recommendation. ;)

What are you reading? [March 2017]

The Dark Tower series can be split into two parts - pre-accident and post-accident (the accident being when SK was hit by a car while walking, and very nearly died. Took him ages to start writing again, and when he did he wanted to finish the Dark Tower series). The pre-accident books are pretty...

This. And, particularly as he gets more into the social commentary side of things, there are very real moments where you sit back and think about how to change our world to make it better.

What are you reading? [March 2017]

Your reading list sounds a lot like my reading list. Under Heaven is great, but Bridge of Birds is permanently affixed to my best books list. Crescent Moon didn't thrill, alas. I haven't read Moving Pictures, but agree that later Prachett is better than older Prachett. I think I enjoy the biting...

Try Alaistar Reynolds if you haven't yet.

What are you reading [Feb 2017]?

Shift was...different than Wool. It's been a couple years since I read it, but it wasn't bad. I'm realizing, after reading more Hugh Howey, that he doesn't stray from his tone very much, and it wears on me. (I realize I just said Shift was different, and Howey sounds the same in everything he...

What are you reading [Feb 2017]?

I finished Abaddon's Gate, and read The First Law trilogy (The Blade Itself; Before They Are Hanged; and Last Argument of Kings). Just finished Best Served Cold tonight. I could read Heroes, but honestly I'm OK with switching it up for a week or so. I'm away for work next week, and kinda want...
