    D&D (2024) Fireball/Lightning Bolt vs Chromatic Orb?

Zard, did you get torched once too often by fireball? To compare it to chromatic orb is beyond ridiculous. You always have a 5% miss chance with chromatic orb no matter what. The bounce is never guaranteed nor is hitting multiple targets. Its only advantage is that it’s a much better damage...

    D&D (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

The buckets of hit points make a lot of your concentration spells less appealing. You still have to burn them down. Fear causes a panic which is great out in the open but breaks as soon as a monster runs around the corner. Legendary Resistances makes any of your spells moot. A lot of the spells...

    D&D (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

All those are concentration effects. You can’t stack them and only slow is selective unless you are a sorcerer. Unless I was involved with creatures that have fire immunity I would take fireball over any of them.

    D&D (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

Actually wolves will clump together because of pack tactics. Wolves attack en masse IRL. They would be very susceptible to AOE. The radius for fireball is huge and it hits most creatures on most maps. You don’t want extremely loose formations because it’s a simple way to get picked off for...

    D&D (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

It is the go to spell at 3rd level. It’s a gigantic leap in power and my first choice unless the campaign specifically restricts it. Since I play sorcerers and evoke wizards it’s not suboptimal unless I am encountering fire immunity monsters or environments that specifically negate it. It is S tier.

    D&D (2024) Fireball is a C Tier Spell

Fireball is S tier. Why? It’s iconic. Demonstrating the PC’s first real jump in power. Everyone knows it and a distinct minority hate it. If it were any other spell I probably would not have posted a reply but fireball will always be my choice unless I am I the Nine Hells. Rock on fireball!

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

I don’t think the art per se is bad in the main boos but in the Dragon Lance novels they recently released it’s an abomination. I wish they would let Larry Elmore draw Tanis Half-Elven because the artist or CGI rendering was straight out of the Abyss.

D&D (2024) Lycanthropes in the MM

Yep, in order to not hurt the fragile ego’s of martial characters silver weapons do more damage 5-10% of the time. Way to drop the ball WOTC. Martial characters should be ashamed of themselves.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I completely disagree. Wolverine broods like Conan. He is not an outright good character but has his moments. He also has a chivalric code towards women very similar to Conan.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

Its funny because WOTC is releasing a new Ravenloft book. The party will have an artificer, tiefling, cleric, drow barbarian, orc wizard and an arracockra. I have zero interest in reading it.

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I have to disagree with you there. I don’t see anything particularly great about George R.R. Martin’s writing which seems much more like pulp than Tolkien. Many of the current fantasy writers really aren’t that appealing. I got more enjoyment from Weis & Hickman back in the TSR glory days than...

D&D General No One Reads Conan Now -- So What Are They Reading?

I disagree. I love Conan and it still holds up well. Players I game with play more like Conan than any other archetype except for possibly Raistlin. Everyone is confident, tough as nails, pretty honorable but plain murderous when double crossed. Conan’s world was vibrant and much more enjoyable...

D&D (2024) D&D Marilith Is Far More Bestial In 2025

That is funny because I never once look at a Brock, Glabrezu or Herzou and said what could make this creature better? Boobs!

The planetar has always appeared this way. The only difference from prior editions was less of a muscular build and much more toned. The solar definitely had a masculine look in all editions with the 2nd edition art being most masculine in my opinion.

How can you tell it’s a male? It could be a very butch female. The banshee does not look masculine at all.

That would make sense as I don’t have every issue of Dragon. If they don’t have snakes in their hair and lack a petrifying gaze they simply aren’t Medusa IMHO.

I honestly don’t see either of the banshee as male. They both look female to me, but perhaps beauty is I the eye of the beholder.

Please provide proof of male hag and banshee art. The current and prior monster manuals do not represent this art. The why not approach to art is not really valid. You can make a death knight in robes and say it’s a death knight but that does not mean it is a necessary or desired change.

D&D (2024) D&D Marilith Is Far More Bestial In 2025

If that is the case for Male Medusa, I have never heard of them. Was it a specific module? There has been nothing said of male hags. What would be the reason to save them for a future update when you can simply include a Gargamel looking dude I the current MM?
