tail wags dog: streamers want to say 'aaargh' so we are getting a pirate adventure

Can I get a third option? *looks back at the post/theory that started this whole mess* Can I get a fourth option?

    Spring's D&D Release Will Be Ship-Themed

Nope. "Core" means just that: core, universal and essential to more or less all games. While FR remains the most popular campaign setting by a wide margin, it's still not used in a majority of games. (In every survey WotC has released the answers for, "homebrew" beat FR handily.) An FR...

tail wags dog: streamers want to say 'aaargh' so we are getting a pirate adventure

I am particularly taken by the OP's friends psychic powers--as demonstrated by his ability to judge and define the playstyle encouraged by something he doesn't watch, and then to envision the changes WotC will be making in the future based on that--and I beg him to utilize his gifts for my...

tail wags dog: streamers want to say 'aaargh' so we are getting a pirate adventure

Well, as theories go, this one certainly has words in it.

    Teleportation Circle destruction

I would be inclined to say that they can damage it enough to stop it functioning, but that it can be repaired by a single new casting of teleportation circle--or maybe a few castings, over the course of a few days, depending on the extent of the damage.

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

That's only if your goal is to emulate real life. Up to this point, we've been talking about repetition-based exhaustion--whether from swinging a sword or casting a cantrip--in more general, abuse-frustrating "You can't keep this up forever" terms. Mimicking real life is a new criteria. Sure...

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

Nah. Just saying "You can't do it indefinitely" is more than sufficient, unless you're planning to actually have a situation that requires the characters to fight for scores or hundreds of rounds in a row. In which case, you're already outside the expected bounds of the system. Seriously, if...

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

Except what you're describing is still leaps and bounds more complicated/more bookkeeping than I want to deal with. :)

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

You and I have very different definitions of "all that complicated."

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

Eh. I wouldn't consider it a rule (house or otherwise), just like I don't consider it a game rule for the DM to say "You can build a flimsy raft out of sticks, but not a full-size ocean-worthy galleon, no matter what tools or skills you have." It's just one of those things that the rules don't...

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

Huh. To me, while they're probably different "kinds" of exhaustion, the same logic applies to both. There's only so long a person can repeat anything strenuous. I mean, people will play how they play, it just seems like such an obvious solution to me. :-S Especially since most of the people...

    Most frustrating quirk of 5E?

I don't understand why people assume this is the case. Sure, purely by the game rules, this is true. By the game rules, a fighter can also swing an eight-pound hammer every six seconds (or even multiple times in a six-second period) for days on end if they can stay awake to do it. But pretty...

What solution for "Cantrips don't feel magical"?

Well, let's see. Limiting cantrips will not do the trick. You either limit them so much that the full casters are no longer mechanically balanced in the 5E system, or you give them a limit that's so generous, they still might as well be unlimited. You can change the "attack" cantrips so they're...

D&D 5E Does Rope Trick Heal?

At the end of any year but this one, I would refuse to believe this thread even exists. For 2018, though? This just feels like a natural result.

Tough DM call - how would you run it?

Well, since nobody else is waiting for the extra info... ;) I would say option 1, but just how expensive I'd make it would depend on what the IC reason was (if any) for the delay. It'll be expensive regardless, though. Or... Option 0: Have the PC revert to flesh without the characters knowing...

Tough DM call - how would you run it?

Need more information. Specifically... You guys didn't rush/choose the quick solution because the player was going to miss some games. Okay, fair. But what was the in-character reason? Why didn't the characters view this as something to be done ASAP? Or (as option #1 implies) did nobody even...

    A monstrous campaign

Ran a monster campaign way back in 2E, using the Humanoid's Handbook. It was an absolute blast. But it was, as I said a full campaign (albeit not too long of one), not a one-shot. That campaign actually served as a loose basis for The Goblin Corps. (Emphasis on "loose." You cannot directly...

DMs! Have you ever had a “boss encounter” turn into a cakewalk? What happened?

Okay, you're gonna have to give us more details on this one!

    False truisms in 5th edition

Yeah, I've run games with both a fighter and a barbarian. Neither player was an optimizer, both took a feat or two and then ASIs. While the barbarian had an occasional impressive round in terms of DPR, the fighter absolutely out-damaged her on the long curve. (The fighter was a dual-wielder.)...
