    Fewer magic items, stronger PCs.

Something a bit smoother based on ichabod's method: Option of: +2 skill points per level or, increase HD one step Option of: Changing 2 bad saves to good saves, or increasing combat progression 1 step Feat every odd level (really no big deal) Attribute point every even level (may not be...

    Item Creation as Skills

Bump, the rules have been streamlined some (see link above) and some examples: Boots of Speed (10 rounds/day): Craft Enchanted Item: 13 ranks Base DC: 23 XP Cost: 800 Time: 13 hours Ring of Protection +5 Forge Defensive Item: 11 ranks Base DC: 21 XP Cost: 1,000 Time: 25 hours Boots of...

    Appearence and Player Shallowness

For appearance, I add con and cha modifiers. Gives a good general idea. However lately I've been thinking about it being cha plus highest physical stat.

    No Common Language - comments?

One of my worlds had a 'common' tongue that was in place because of a world-spanning empire, but now with its fall it was rapidly diverging and being supplanted be the original languages. Another campaign had all players start in the same region, so they all spoke the same tongue by default...

    Vegetarians and the Single Man

It's now being said that the low carbohydrate diet is all that is needed for life extension :-p But do make sure she gets water. Some additional excersize is good too, and fish are very important, and poultry should not go unconsidered.

    Vegetarians and the Single Man

You mentioned earlier that she tries the low carb deal - she better be getting plenty of water. Not OJ, milk or pop, water. Lack of water causes headaches and all sorts of problems, and low-carb diets, while making for more attractive bodies, need more hydration (especially for men who face...

Legendary Trait feat (some thing im working on for my game)

Rather than adjust the roll, I would have it add a straight +6 to the given ability score, and have the prerequisite be 'Chosen Ability score at 17+' - before the feat, naturally. Allow it only to be taken once. This is a campaign making feat, not a one for an individual player in a game. It...

    Item Creation as Skills

You can take 10 on the check. Since the base DC is usually 10 + ranks required, you may only need to roll when you try one of the special modifiers as above. 1 skill focus is +3, a '+2/+2' feat is +2, something like educated for magecraft/psicraft could be balanced giving +1 to all such...

    Item Creation as Skills

This is an idea I've been toying around with for awhile now, along with metamagic as skills. Metamagic as skills makes for potential mechanical problems, but item creation as feats makes no sense to me whatsoever, so here this is. Some costs have been adjusted, some things combined, etc...

    State of the RPG Industry

FASA didn't die, they sold their lines to Wizkids (one of whom co-founded FASA) and currently sells Shadowrun and Battletech through FanPro. Regardless, GURPS, Tri-Stat, HERO, Unisystem, d20, Storyteller and their kin are a good sign, in my opinion. There is a definate plus in having a few...

Do you keep your Players in the Dark?

Common enemies and flunkies get detailed. Sometimes NPCs get handed off to players even. Generally, one to three big enemies - it gets kept secret. Flunkies are cannon fodder and get treated that way.

    Asian Pantheons?

AEG's Legend of the Five Rings (d20 version is called Rokugan) is currently the most popular oriental RPG setting - and one of the better ones, I'm told (I just like to think of it as excellent). In many ways, it does an amazing job of blending the four main oriental philosophy-religions. It...

Ethereal jaunt in the outer planes?

Up to the DM. Some planes have etherreal planes, and/or shadow planes, others don't. They are seperate planes from the normal etherreal and shadow, however, except for the elemental planes.

Any rules for lack of sleep?

It's been awhile since I've seen the reference, but there was a study about a man who managed to stay awake for nine days. He couldn't do basic math. When I was younger I routinely stayed up 48 to 72 hours. I've had to do it at least six times a year because of certain long drives. It's like...

The poor, old, forgotten d12? (And d10.)

Deadlands is on the opposite end of the spectrum here, where all dice (and cards) do indeed see an equal amount of use :-)

The poor, old, forgotten d12? (And d10.)

Why not just use one of the myriad of single-die systems then? d6, Shadowrun and Tri-Stat make sole use of the d6. L5R, 7th Sea, and the Storyteller games make sole use of the d10. I think Ars Magica does too but I don't remember quite right.

The poor, old, forgotten d12? (And d10.)

In the 2d10 system I'm making, weapons do dice of damage based on size and damage based on the type of weapon. Tiny weapons to 1 die, small 2, medium 3, large 4... and so on. Bludgeoning weapons do d12, slashing d8, piercing d4. Half-sizes increase the die type one step (or add a die in case...

    Stats for Heros

Only in older editions of D&D. Which may or may not hold weigh in 3rd edition depending on viewpoint, however the use of 4d6 and 25 point buy/standard array simulates the top 10% on 3d6. Rather funky, that. Regardless, you do get a good sense of scale working the numbers out.

    Stats for Heros

The bottom of the barrel is in such a sorry state we don't like to talk about it :-p
