New player asking for some advice/help, please. 3e vs 4e. Which one is for me?

If you are new and do not have a history with older editions, I would strongly recommend going with the current edition (4.0). You will find much more support and interest amongst your players, and availability of material. Most (not all) of the love for earlier editions are from dinosaurs...

What to do with old Delve Nights characters

What do other DMs and players intend to do with old Delve Nights characters? My plan is to ask the players' permissions to use them as NPCs in an ongoing campaign located in the new Forgotten Realms campaign setting. This has the benefit of giving the players an ownership stake and built in...

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

I had a bad situation with a control freak DM about three years ago. I was told he was like that, but being new to the area I was jonesing for a game. My wife and I played the first week, and I didn't see any problems. But my wife (she is an HR manager, and is trained to look for personality...

    Tempest Fighter or Melee Ranger?

You have a kind and gentle DM. I would never ask for that... nor would I give it. Sir, it does you no credit when you take a point that I disagreed with, and assume that I must believe the opposite extreme. Please refrain in the future from posting these kinds of assumptions. Thank you. I...

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

If the DM does not like Dragonborn... just kill them off right away. I agree with you. The DM serves the role of refereeing the game, they do not own it and should not dictate. I do not like inflexible DMs who are control freaks.

Tiefling, Dragonborn : have they gained traction ?

If the DM does not like Dragonborn... just kill them off right away. Even the slowest gaming group will eventually get the message.

How much do characters know about game mechanics?

My next character will be a chaotic evil cleric, and worship me as a deity.

How much do characters know about game mechanics?

No character has ever made a decision, 100% of them are made by their human puppet masters. We understand the game mechanics, and control them accordingly. We role play characters who exist within a set of rules, like "I need an extended rest before I can use this power again." And sometimes...

    Tempest Fighter or Melee Ranger?

A "party of one" will need skills like Nature and Perception to survive. Except that rituals are for stationary action, and skills (especially Nature and Perception) are used while on the move. Often in stress situations. I would find it almost impossible for my character to survive a journey...

How does one play a beastmaster Ranger?

I agree with you 100%, but I haven't run a 4.0 Ranger yet. The Ranger in my group specializes in archery. My group generally has three rules: 1) Work with other characters. 2) Be interesting in what you do. 3) be effective in support of the party.

    Polymorph Effects return!

While it's nice to have Polymorph back, I would've hoped it would be available before 29th level.

How does one play a beastmaster Ranger?

My recommendation is to break the expectation of what the standard thing to do is for a cookie-cut concept, and find an original personality and way of doing things for your character. Find an original niche, and go for it!

[Forked Thread: How Important is Magic..?] 5 things you need to know

I am curious... not being a fiction reader, can you elaborate on this? It seems that there are strong influences on you character building and role play style, how has the above been a contributor?

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

In this part of my introduction, I state mockingly how I knew by design that I as a player I had no interest in using Raguel as a combat Wizard. But that I would have a sword and pretend to be able to use it... because I was Eladrin. This captures the first half of my career as an adventurer...
