(Magic) Tell Me the Conceits of Your Setting

Magic is there to add flavor to the game (as you said), and the game mechanics needs to be understood by the player. To delve further into the meaning of magic is an exercise in mental self gratification.

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

Thank you, but I'm not sure what you mean by "secondary daze effect of 'the one sword' is not sustainable". Does that mean: - I can continue with that secondary attack, but my opponent "undazes" after the end of the next round? - Or I only get one use of the secondary daze attack?

(Magic) Tell Me the Conceits of Your Setting

We got rid of Enlarge, because it did little more than inflate character size by filling it with hot air. Regarding Polymorph in 3.5E, we follow the rule of "Conservation of ECL".

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

I asked the DM if I could... and he shrugged his shoulders and said "Why not?" I make it a point to role play my lack of strength. Thanks, that's one part of the question down.

Wow, my Wimpzard can finally use a Sword !!!

Despite my 06 strength, as an eladrin I felt that I had to carry a longsword. After all, it was in my blood. I never cared to own one, but as I left home for the first time to make my fortune as an adventurer, I needed to have one because for an eladrin not to have one would have brought...

How much will Captain Commando make in his 1st month as a Pro GM?

I wish him all the luck in the world. Unfortunately, that may not be enough to help. Especially at a time with a down economy.

    Tell Me About Your Aventure

A few adventures ago we killed a drow patrol. Then we fought off some marauding hill giants. Upon entering a nearby city, over two adventures we took out an underground drow temple. The family behind the temple was discovered to be Eilservs. I believe we may be doing a remake of an old...

Forked: (On Change, Old School, . . .) Historical Fiction in Gaming

Here are some more of the notes that I diaried... 1415: The Roman Catholic King Wenceslaus had Jan Hus imprisoned in Prague Castle, to be burned at the stake the next day. I approched Hus the night before his execution and explained what I was, and offered him the embrace to continue his work...

On Change, Old School, New School, Same School, and High School.

I switched from D&D to White Wolf (mostly Dark Ages) because I loved history. We started in Constantinople, and played out that story until the fall of the city in 2004. At one point our game had 13 players plus a ST and two assistants. Afterward we went through the entire Transylvania...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Piratecat, judging by the date of the first post here your game started around October 4th. How many game sessions have you played, and how many levels have your characters increased. Have you read the my character's diary (from the link I sent you)? Our game started on September 16th, and...

Flavor Mish-mash and favored classes (what 4e got wrong)

One way to fix this... give each race three possible stats to add the +2 bonus to, but only two get the bonus.

On Change, Old School, New School, Same School, and High School.

When I was in college (early 80s), I played D&D, was in a band (for beer money and to meet chicks), and played just about every sport intramurally. Yeah my grades suffered for all of my diverse activities, but I graduated. After I graduated one of my friends bought a house. Friday night and one...

Did you meet Edgar Casey there in the Akashic Library?

So which non- D&D based games have you played?

Vampire: Dark Ages & Masquerade, before LARP destroyed the game. Mage: Ascension. Dark Ages was my favorite, because most of the group were real history buffs.

Do you build NPCs to live or to die?

Some bad guy NPCs sole purpose in life is fight to the death and die a quick and violent death. Others are meant to be a perpetual thorn in the side of the characters. It is he latter that is built to last and develops a personality.

How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

For the most part, I have only gamed for the social atmosphere, the interaction between people in a fantasy setting. Which I guess is why I have never played a video game.

How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

I would've cast Floating Disk, that has always been a favorite of mine. There was no built in Yuan-Ti, but if there was one give credit to your DM for addition. I had added a Rakshasa. One player was running a Deva, so when two other characters entered town they came upon a humanoid who had...
