For playtesters: the lack of morale rules

Morale's tough because as soon as you integrate it into the game with rules and skills and checks it becomes a weapon instead of these neat little extra in the game. Someone will become the super intimidator or however it can be exploited. For that reason alone, I prefer to keep it at DM fiat.

    Variable HP for monsters

I have no problem with monsters rolling HP but it isn't going to matter that often because damage is random. The variability that you want (some monsters take one hit, some two, and some three) is already in the game and only in niche cases will rolling monster HP add more variety. Given that...

    Words are hard!

My two main D&D vocabulary stories: The Good My vocabulary was always years ahead of others in elementary school. Words like melee just blew teacher's minds and, once, in high school, a biology teacher spent a class pronouncing scion "ski-on" until my D&D group very politely corrected her and...

D&D Next Playtest Package Questions Answered! (Mike Mearls, Jeremy Crawford)

Lots of reticence to talk about anything online so far (play or tools). Maybe they're understandably shy since its consistently been a thorn for them. Or maybe they have a huge announcement of something awesome about to be revealed! Here's hoping.

D&D 5E Who is planning on changing their existing games over to 5e?

I can't help but be drawn in by the allure of something new. It'll get attention. That doesn't mean it'll become the staple of my gaming, but it *is* hard to not be tempted.

Under what conditions would you give advantage/disadvantage?

Your approach is pretty neat and clean. I sort of hope they go with the other way because then it still incentivizes incremental improvement. If the goblin being prone grants disadvantage on ranged attacks, then you only have incentive to get advantage to even out. Any other improvements (class...

Gaming Group Reaches 30 Year Milestone

I am amazed that you've kept track of all the characters for 30 years. I don't think I could come up with my own last 10, much less anyone else's last 5.

    The "Smell Test"

Yeah, they can't afford to lose 4e because they won't rope back in all of Pathfinder. For 5e to succeed they need to carry most of 4e forward, capture back grognards/Pathfinder, and still have enough flash to draw in new players and grow the base. It is going to be a tall order.

Under what conditions would you give advantage/disadvantage?

That's what I'd do as well. I'll be interested to see how it shakes out.

The zombie apocolpyse is possibly upon us (real life)

Fortunately we've all spent the last few years being trained for the zombie apocalypse through all the games, books, and movies. Bring it on!

Under what conditions would you give advantage/disadvantage?

Right. But we also know that if I get Adv from a source and then I get Disadv from a different source, they cancel. So my question is, "What if I get Adv from a source, then Disadv from a source, and then Adv from a different source?" I get that you can never get multiple dice, but this is a...

Under what conditions would you give advantage/disadvantage?

In addition, I'd like concealment, invisibility, and a handful of powers (imagining the entire Warlord/Martial class type). Quick aside--I know that adv/disad cancel out, but has it been clarified what happens if you have two advantages and one disadvantage?

Obective look at WotC's history with D&D

Well, they did license the video game rights of D&D to another company (Atari). So perhaps they'd consider licensing D&D (the board game) to a small company for a fixed fee and then continue producing the board games, video games, and pursuing movie deals. That way Hasbro keeps the parts they...

What's the bet that ENW will get hammered?

Actually ENW is doing great compared to a lot of boards. It's been really smooth for me the last few weeks with only a few seconds of lag most times.

    What's your multiverse like?

I have the primary world, an in between world, and then the afterlife which is virtually unreachable and even then only from the in between world. The in between world is also where people go when they are invisible or ethereal, which has some interesting quirks. For instance, invisible people...

Pathfinder 1E Anyone else excited about the Pathfinder MMO?

Not super excited, but optimistic. My main concern is that they don't spread themselves too thin and have other products decline. I have this fear of outside investors being able to divert resources in a similar fashion to Hasbro over WotC. I vaguely recall that they made sure that can't happen...

    How Magical ARE Magical Beasts?

I think the main function of magical beasts are to make it harder to handle animal and similar. It is more a mechanical grouping than an in-world distinction.

    More concerns over hit points

Totally depends on the player. I played a 4th level monk in 3e with 11 hp (and we got to reroll the first 1 on each HD, meaning six 1's in a row). I played it, adapted, had fun. I've seen other players torpedo their character after one or two bad HD rolls because for them it just isn't worth it...

    D&D 5E Armor in D&DNext

I've always preferred the Bronn from Game of Thrones style fighter anyhow. I'm a little uneasy with how potent shields seem to be. A +2 AC bonus is pretty huge in a game with flat math.

    The "Smell Test"

Interesting results so far. Everyone pre-4e is generally happy. Everyone 4e is generally sad. I guess that sort of aligns with Wizards' goal, but I'm imagining they'll try and rope the 4e crowd in more deliberately with the subsequent play test releases.
