Congratulations, darkcyril, and everyone else who entered and fared well.

The 7-Day RPG Contest [Voting is over!]

I'm really hoping to get to reading some of these entries over the weekend (c'mon, free time!). Looks like quite a wide variety of very indie games in here.

The 7-Day RPG Contest [Voting is over!]

Boom! Asylum. If D&D were about killing your fellow human kind to survive on a deserted island and instead of rolling d20s to make attacks, you rolled Fate dice to determine the number of actions in your story, and if instead of being a dungeon crawl, it was a storytelling experience of...

Game Design 108: Realism vs. Fun

I agree with the title (in that the title is meant to be eye-catching and grab your attention, but also the intention of the article). Yes, the game is meant to be fun, but there is such a thing as too much fun. I interpret the author's definition of "fun" as goofy hijinks where players are the...

It's The EN World 7-Day RPG Contest! $1000 Prize!

In the spirit of this competition, I've also created this one from scratch over the past week (based on a rough concept worked out in my head months ago). Asylum is a roleplaying game of violence and survival. It's just you and nearly 300 other convicts trapped on a deserted island with a...

What The $%&! Is A Stealth Encounter?

Thanks. Not quite a Wizards book, but as close as I can. Their Game System License allows other publishers to release additional D&D supplements. I'll post a link here when it goes on sale Thursday.

What The $%&! Is A Stealth Encounter?

Break & Enter is a trilogy of three supplements for D&D 4e, each dealing with unique aspects of stealth. Book I (releasing Thursday) deals a new encounter type known as "stealth encounter," covered in these previews. Book II: The Art if Stealth provides a collection of stealthy player options...

What The $%&! Is A Stealth Encounter?

B&E Preview #2: Neither Seen Nor Heard True stealth is not just about light and shadow; only an amateur with a pre-paid tombstone believes that. Feigned invisibility relies on your whole environment. You can stand directly over top your target and he will never know you’re there… until you...

What The $%&! Is A Stealth Encounter?

(This post comes from our Shades of Emerald blog, but has been copied here in full for convenience sake.) There’s something about rogues (or thieves, bandits, assassins, whatever else you want to call them). They carry an aura of danger about them. The way they stand in darkness keeping their...

    Slicing throats?

Exactly. It takes a co-ordinated effort and everyone has to succeed - putting the rounds it takes for every character, including slow ones, means you could be needlessly extending an encounter by 4 or 5 rounds. It needs a few adjustments if you want to truly experience stealth combat. Using...

    Slicing throats?

Ah, this thread takes me back. For those of you still interested on playing Rambo in Russian prison caves, we have a preview for Break & Enter, Book I: Stealth Encounters in Combat Advantage #20. It includes a sample stealth encounter (with notes) to give you a concept of how you can kill ANYONE...

    More mercenary adventures!

Thanks. We've been toying with various ideas to make PDFs more valuable than print copies in certain regards. Even I don't think PDFs should replace hard copies, but there are ways you can get more out of a PDF. I'll make that change to the printer layer to something a little more clarified.

    More mercenary adventures!

I'll take that challenge. I'm the publisher for EONS #1: The Endless Vault and we have provided a means for one adventure to work over multiple levels and tiers of play. Now, I will clarify that EONS #1 only works across TWO tiers, heroic and paragon, but not epic. However, that being said, we...

    EONS Adventures = Choice

While wizards might be fumbling with the 4e ball and figuring out who to throw it to, the independent 4e community is still kicking. EONS #1: The Endless Vault is a new one-shot 4e adventure from Emerald Press PDF Publishing. Sitting outside of Seddleton is a neglected house the children call...

    Shadowrun/Earthdawn races and monsters?

Redbrick was originally working on a 4e version of Earthdawn, called "Age of Legends," but it's been put on the backburner for the meantime. Possibly even cancelled altogether.
