    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

You're right, Umbran. I've said it in my detailed review that it is a good refresher and since it is well-structured in its presentation (at least for chapter 3), it does its job in being a tool/guideline. However, over the years, I had already created something like what is found in chapter 3...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

I came back (to this thread) as I think I need to offer my apology to Morrus. I meant it another way but I guess the sentence came out differently. My bad buddy :)

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

Problem is, my opinion differs from the general populace. How should it stand out then? Stating it and ending it like, "Oh, but of course, the DMG 5e is a 5/5 if everyone else thinks so..." That isn't stating my opinion. I guess as what Morrus said, I'm one of the dissenters here and anything...

Sorry bud but your point of view clearly bang on a lot of folks' brains as dead :D

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

Actually I also agree with you but when I thought that EN World is a leading authority on RPG stuff and some folks will take the ratings and rankings on this site seriously, I asked Morrus (check out one of the first few earlier posts on this) to have a better way of rating...weighted average...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

Ok, since you mentioned the adventure creation section. That's chapter 3. There are 17 pages interspaced with pictures and tables. Without referring to the book, what will you consider elements to a great adventure? Suspense? Twists? Surprises? Ups and Downs? Sacrifices? Mystery? Moving on -...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

You're kidding right? 13th Age core (which in my opinion is a much better book altogether than DMG) won the silver ENnie itself here yet it holds only a 85% rating. If PF Core is bad (and they "enhanced D&D 3e), then D&D 3e will be in the same league and don't forget, D&D 5e "borrowed" from D&D...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

My way too :) That's why I asked Morrus for EN World to do something about the scoring - it needs some way to weight it.

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

Then, sadly that will make the chapters 1-3 even more irrelevant to experienced DM as nothing in there aren't what I am already knowing.

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

So if EN World is also to have a review for DMG 3.5, what score will it receive? If it gets a 3.5/5, does it mean that DMG 5E is better than DMG 3E? What are scores if not relative? Anyway, I had reviewed fantasy novels before and aren't there some stories that left a bad taste in your mouth...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

There are nine chapters in the DMG. Yes, its a DM (GM) guide. It's split into world building and managing, adventure building and managing, rules building and managing. You're right it isn't billed as a world building guide but there are world building materials found therein. It isn't billed...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

@ delericho: Agree and fair points. However, as someone who had gone through all the editions (ok, maybe not totally on 4e), I had to review it as such. A review also goes into how much effort and thought-process the designers had sink into it, its relevance and then how durable (not just...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

No. It's not just me. Since you directed it at me, let me return the question. Are you an experienced DM? Have you created worlds, campaigns, adventures? If so, will you use it? Are you an inexperienced DM? If so, if you have a full book on world building and a chapter of this in the DMG, what...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

I'm old-school too (which is why I totally don't dig D&D 4e) and I love the handling on magical items but I'm reviewing the book as it is - what it contains and how it is presented. By the way, in D&D 3.5 DMG (I just checked), there are altogether 82 pages on magical items. Or else, go check...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

But Morrus, if the review is merely a one sentence followed by a 5/5 score? Isn't that what I'm harping about?! I did ask for weighted average in my earlier post...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

@ delericho: I'm not saying that its bad materials (I gave this chapter a 3/5) but most of it (I will gauge it at nearly 60-70%) are rehashed from other previous books. I don't know about you but I have all the books produced thus far by WOTC till D&D 3.5. Go check out the compendiums. Of course...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

Anyway, I'm not saying that DMG is that bad but it is definitely not that good to be in the league with books like (PHB, Calidar, 13th Truer ways) or better than The Strange, Call of Cthulhu 7th Edition, 13th Age core book, Fate Core system(!?!), DCC, PF core. Take another example: Chapter 1: A...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

Delerico: Exactly! I had my book on Dec 04 and spent days reading and reviewing it progressively. I pondered and considered how much of the materials I'll use, how much will influence my games, how relevant and if its any sort of ground breaking materials. In conclusion, i found the overall...

    D&D 3E/3.5 The DMG: A CRITICAL HIT at 93.5%!

Morrus and fjw70: Don't think that I had suckered you on a word that you used. Just google for merriam-Webster, free dictionary or just google "dissenter meaning". Remember, I didn't use that word, you did. As I had given earlier, it is to deviate or go against the norm, thinking, ideas or...
