D&D 5E King (for a day) of the Monsters: Rot Grub Swarm

Yes, unluckiness and a lack of tactics amped up the potency of the grubs, but the grubs still kill quickly. Even if the players knew what it took to kill them, doesn't mean they'd have immediate access to fire or the restorative spells required. The weird thing about the grubs (maybe a design...

D&D 5E King (for a day) of the Monsters: Rot Grub Swarm

The players agreed to return grung prisoners through the jungle to the grung village as a means of negotiating, but the prisoners escaped and set a trap. The grubs attacked when the dead bodies they were in were moved.

    D&D 5E Adamantine Skeleton?

According to Marvel, Wolverine's bones had an adamantium covering (pretty consistently) and added 100 pounds to his weight. Is there an established mechanic for broken bones? Not all of the meat though is outside the bones. The adamantine would protect vital chest organs and the brain. It...

D&D 5E King (for a day) of the Monsters: Rot Grub Swarm

Rot grubs have 5' speed, but used as a trap they had 10' blindsight and surprise and rolled a crit and were inside the PC before he could act. Once inside only fire by the end of the target's next turn or a spell that removes diseases has any effect; the players didn't know or think of either...

D&D 5E King (for a day) of the Monsters: Rot Grub Swarm

My players had prisoners who escaped from them set a trap that included the body of one of the former players hanging from a tree. There was a hidden spiked pit in front of the body, but the players Perceived it. However, the prisoners placed a swarm of rot grubs inside the hanging body. One...

    D&D 5E Adamantine Skeleton?

For a rust monster, "Any nonmagical weapon made of metal that hits the rust monster corrodes. " From XGtE, "Adamantine is an ultrahard metal found in meteorites and extraordinary mineral veins. In addition to being used to craft adamann'ne armor, the metal is also used for weapons." And from...

    D&D 5E Adamantine Skeleton?

Although the bones aren't effected by the rust unless there are severe wounds exposing them. I have Howlett now as a dwarf with Dwarven Fortitude but am now considering making him a troll or trollkin runt. My reticence to improving AC is that he'd have to take damage before an attack hit the...

    D&D 5E Adamantine Skeleton?

Maybe no critical hits is good enough, but it sure seems like this benefit should do more than that. I thought about resistances, but in this instance barbarian is already giving those. Would either of these worK: - gives a -5 to bl, pr, & sl damage (similar to Heavy Armor Mastery) - caps bl...

    D&D 5E Adamantine Skeleton?

Let's say I have a dwarf barbarian NPC that has an adamantine skeleton (and adamantine spikes embedded into his hands). How would you handle an adamantine skeleton? Adamantine armor is supposed to make any critical hits into normal hits (that works), but that doesn't sound like enough of a...

    D&D 5E Kobold Press's Creature Codex Submissions

Honestly, I have Tome of Beasts but don't use it very often. I usually run home-brew campaigns so make up a lot of my own foes, and then now I'm running players through Tomb of Annihilation which has a pretty good set of infused monsters. I let another player use Tome of Beasts when he DMs; I...

    D&D 5E Kobold Press's Creature Codex Submissions

Kobold Press today announced the 46 (of 322 submissions) monster design winners for publication in their sequel to the Tome of Beasts called the Creature Codex. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/350683997/creature-codex-5th-edition-monsters-including-comm/posts/2103418 My design wasn't in...

    D&D (2024) 6e, how would you sort the classes/sub-classs?

I don't care for multi-classing either, but I can see a place for a Jack-of-all-trades. The JOAT is good at almost everything, but not great at any. A lot of tasks need someone who is great at something, making the JOAT need others. The JOAT can fill some holes in a party, but could never do it...

D&D 5E Spell Preparation on Long Rest

Though I think the point is moot given the Sage Advice answer, the long rest requirement is different than a day requirement. Once per day requirements seem to be used for NPCs. A PC could go more a day without long resting.

D&D 5E Spell Preparation on Long Rest

Are you saying that somewhere in the RAW this is definitively stated? Sage Advice by its nature would not be considered "explicitly."

D&D 5E Spell Preparation on Long Rest

Thanks. That looks like the answer. It would have made a difference to me as a wizard if I had to guess what spells I needed for the day as soon as I awoke or if I could wait until I had more information about what situations were immediately in front of me and select a more specialized spell.

D&D 5E Spell Preparation on Long Rest

The player's handbook states: You can change your list of prepared spells whenyou finish a long rest. Preparing a new list of wizardspells requires time spent studying your spellbook andmemorizing the incantations and gestures you mustmake to cast the spell: at least 1 minute per spell levelfor...

D&D 5E New Race Feats Appearing in D&D's 'Xanathar's Guide to Everything

It seems like you are comparing a party who all take a +1 to one PC taking a feat.

D&D 5E Wizard School of Obfuscation

Thanks, for the comments. I removed the Hide action from Slyness. I changed Obscure Arcana to state "1 + your Intelligence modifier (minimum 1)," making it in line with features like the Alter Memories feature of School of Enrichment. I realized that I made the illiterate part of Tongue-Tie...
