Random "table" with an inbuilt memory ... (sort of)

So, it's a visual support for easy 2D random walk. Cool. Though with single step only it's just a less-messy form of navigable graph. Yes. So the obvious modifications: * A simple way is to just with some probability "not walk", indeed. ** It's good for cases when drift back toward some...

    D&D General Pellet bow?

Can't find anything already done on this. Except that PO:C&T mis-labeled stonebow (pellet crossbow) as this. They gave it stats as equivalent of a light crossbow (only a little bit lighter) that shoots equivalent of sling stones (with sling range, etc). So just do the same and use fallback of...

    Flying while indoors

IDK, maybe just check Dexterity when doing something that shouldn't automatically succeed, like flying next to the walls, under branches, landing in areas with obviously turbulent winds, etc. Or better add Aerobatics skill and check that.

    Sequester problem

Necro with goshdangware? Cool. :D Why? It "prevents divination spells from working to detect or locate the creature or object". That's it. Not detection of everything remotely associated with it, recursively. Like auras of active spells that may be stuck on it. Nor detection of itself. Also...

    D&D 5E Reclassing the 6 attributes

Also, it will look ridiculous. Somewhere between Cuteness Is Sorcery and Weaboo Fightan Magic - and the latter was one of "solutions" not addressing the real problem, only for "linear warriors vs. cubic wizards" thing. So there's also that. But it used to be a class feature. In that until D&D3...

    Question on El's Effulgent Eporation...

Yet another view. :heh: The original description says: Thus would not negate "most" abjurations (attack effects of the wards is an obvious exception, maybe also Banishment). Disjunction: again, not an "offensive type" spell, so no absorption. It should work normally against all spheres caught...

    D&D 5E Reclassing the 6 attributes

I'd just add Perception and Luck. In SPECIAL and Warhammer RP it works, and *D&D had annoying amount of roundabout solutions tackled on. I don't see why splitting Dex would be a good thing, but maybe split melee and ranged attack (again, like in Warhammer d10). BUT if you had the option to...

D&D 5E 2 PC Wizards Copying Each others spell books

The mechanics dealing with this is a check to learn the spell. Which varied with edition - 3.x is too easily drowned in skill ranks, AD&D2 chances were more interesting. A hefty bonus to deal with magic of the spellbook's owner and perhaps ½ that vs. this wizard's apprentices would make much...

    Stat Blocks Kill Me

Stat blocks in 3.x are ostensibly for DM's convenience, and presumably are helpful in case of ready material, but for most part it's blatant padding - they even parrot definitions of feats and qualities from core! And if you won't use them as is, at a glance it's a mess driowning the details. A...

    Why does fantasy dominate RPGs?

To answer the original question, it depends on flexibility in adventure types on the player side and cloning vs. licensing on the designer side. What other genres there are? Horror, space opera, cyberpunk, superheroes, wacky melodrama, detective, spy, military, post-apocalypse. Fantasy...

New GM with new players. Best adventure?

Not sure there are any larger than series of 3 modules. At which point you could try a warm-up module with more or less fitting theme while searching for more? If you want plot hooks and ideas, read articles on WotC site by Ed Greenwood ("Forging the Realm" series, etc) - not all survived...

Where are all the great spy RPGs?

Back in the 1980's it was sorta kinda fashionable. ;) From relatively modern games, there are Shadowrun (and other cyberpunk games, erhas depending on how you run them) and Dark Heresy (also not all of it, but a large part of it).

    A better THAC0?

You answered your own question. :heh: Practically, when it works this way, pre-calculations become useless back-and-forth. Which is why Hackmaster and Castles&Crusades remove this atavism altogether and use roll-over. Tables that are a result of a tactical/skirmish tabletop system outgrowing...

Here's Some Concept Work For ALTERNITY'S Spaceship Book

So only 2 basic damage types is not a beta feature. Though this still leaves possibility of extension to subtypes appearing only when they are relevant. No division to compartments. Not that this was the hottest feature. One-dimensional TLs. Oh, come on. What the startrek. :heh:

    Multiple KITs

Yup. Exactly because PO detached them. A kit does not modify one class directly any more, but is a separate character option. So the question of how it applies to different classes becomes moot. It's either compatible or not. A good approach, IMO. Since PO also allows greater class...

How many Forgotten Realms novels are there?

Too many and not enough (good). Which is unsurprising, seeing how quality dropped thanks to the publisher with enough of pointy-haired bosses to actually meddle. And since it's publisher-controlled, its quality mostly parallels that of game line. From the "old school", Salvatore was the only...
