Boardgame Review: Lords of Waterdeep from WotC

I got this game for Xmas and can agree with pretty much everything that's said in the review. I've had an opportunity to play a couple of games already and although, apparently, I completely suck at this game (finishing last and second from last) I enjoyed playing it. Interesting to see what...

    Seeding Long-Term Campaign Plots

I'm thinking about starting a campaign in the New Year. It'll be a small group playing every other week. I'd be interested in some help with seeding long-term campaign plots. For that matter, the basics of building short-term plots too, considering I don't actually know how long this campaign...

    Christmas One-Off

I'm going to be running a one-off for some friends over Xmas. They don't play much, if at all, so I know I'm on to a winner. They're all also involved in Roller Derby, so I'm going to have other members of their Roller Derby team kidnapped and charge them with rescuing them! And to do this...

Could you use Shield Other and Spell Immunity in tandem?

I'd say the spell is not being cast on the cleric, so Spell Immunity doesn't apply. The Cleric isn't suffering the effects of the spell, they're taking damage via the Shield Other link only. Also, note that if you have multiple Shield Other spells cast and someone hits the group with a...

Lots of short games or one long game?

I prefer longer games but it's been a mixed experience over the last few years. Right now I'm playing with a group every other Thursday. We're currently doing the OD&D module Castle Amber using the 2e rules. That's been running for a few months and should finish early next year. The plan with...

Rule ideas for Heroic Sacrifice of PC

If a player pulled that trick I'd have a quiet chat. If they pulled it again after the quiet chat I'd boot them from the game. I do not want that in my games, ever.

Rule ideas for Heroic Sacrifice of PC

I have a friend who introduced me to the "Leaf on the Wind" rule, named after Wash's tragic death in Serenity. Broadly speaking, if you say at the start of a fight (or at any time during it) "I am a leaf on the wind" then you receive massive bonuses during the fight (we're currently playing L5R...

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

*mumblemumblenoonetoblamebutyourselfmumble* On a more serious note, the the story of "How Dranko ended up with tentacles in his head" is a great one to show what a good 'Insitgator' player can look like. You took a moment to do something completely random at a moment of great panic (which, as...

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey reactions (SPOILERS)

Saw it this morning and really enjoyed it. I hear what you're saying about the length of the film, but I disagree. I really enjoyed the length of the film and the depth and detail that was put into it. Jackson, to me, is trying to set the Hobbit in a wider context and tie it into the LotR films...

How to tell someone not to come back.

It seems like you need to sort out the behaviour you're not happy with. Get him a character sheet and tell him he's got to concentrate on the game. I'm not sure why these weren't basic given rules of being in the group anyway - how could he play without a sheet?

Sagiro's Story Hour: The FINAL Adventures of Abernathy's Company (FINISHED 7/3/14)

That's a real example (in two different ways) of how the party has come on. Firstly, not telling Ozilinsh something because it's "too dangerous for him to know". Brilliant and I can see why the whole group collapsed in giggles. And the other thing - having them cast multiple time stops to...

Review of DUNGEON! Fantasy Board Game by Wizards of the Coast

Hi, Just a quick moderator note - when we delete a spam message we tend to actually remove it from the thread. We're also perfectly fine with getting more than one report on the same spam message, so there's no need to make a separate post stating you've reported it. Thanks, and happy gaming...

    GENCON and Musical Gamers

I've been a couple of times and both times there were a few stands from people that do gaming songs/comedy musicians. I don't know if the information is still there but you could take a look at the GenCon site and see if the list of booths is still up.

Lets Make Some Silly Magic Items!

The Most Useless Device - a small box, that when activated, summons a Genie that deactivates it. It has infinite charges. The Encyclopedia Magica - contains all known spells, but not for the edition of the game you're currently playing.

    Are you an adventurer?

Rel, it's funny you should have replied to my post earlier. Today I'm about to sit down and do the Strength Finder exercise that you recommended for me. I've been putting it off a bit, but this is the time. I've also got my appointment to get new actors headshot photos next week.

    Skyfall (possible spoilers)

Hope you enjoy the film today, Morrus! Saw it on Monday and I agree it's a great film. Had all the requisite Bond-ness about it, plus some excellent in-jokes. The reveal on the old car and Bond threatening to use the ejector seat on M were priceless.
