Ray Winninger comments on the OGL

Not that doing a 5E auto-calculating sheet is such a big deal. We're not talking Pathfinder 1E here, where creating all-inclusive rule support requires more SAN checks than Masks of Nyarlahotep.

Ray Winninger comments on the OGL

I think it's closer to people not talking about "Doom" anymore and "FPS" being a common-place word. For a while, of course, this will mean that "RPG" is still equated with a limited subset ("D&D-alikes"), but, well, baby steps.

Cory Doctorow writes about the OGL 1.1

It's basically a daily newsletter, and usually wildly cross-posted. You can find the various outlets at his website. The OGL "thread" for example, is also available on medium.

Brian Lewis, original legal drafter of the OGL, speaks out

Also, there's already O.G.R.E.S., Jason Vey's OSR-adjacent game (which just went slightly obfuscated in light of OGL 1.1.) (I think there's a "ORC" game, too. IIRC the "Tibet RPG" used that as its engine)

Cory Doctorow writes about the OGL 1.1

A not too small part of this seems to focus on the "You were signing away your rights with the OGL, as you can't copyright mechanics anyway" stuff we're hearing a lot. I think a lot of people knew that already, but without a truly clear-cut distinction between mechanics and 'trade dress' or...

In the license? I mean, there are laws about this.

List of potential post-OGL 5E replacement RPGs

It seems we're getting into people and organisations already planning and talking about their replacements for D&D 5E. So I thought we'd keep track of them. Note that I'm talking about games that at least seem closely related to 5/5.1E, not replacing D&D with other systems like OpenD6 or BRP...

D&D Beyond Twitter Account says OGL will be addressed soon

I wouldn't be too surprised to hear a lot of apologies and them "asking for time to review the issues presented". Not mentioning that those aren't the concerns of the fans, but the legal holes that came up. And in 1-3 months, we'll get a new OGL 1.2, now with even more "We're gamers, too, LOL"...

D&D Beyond Twitter Account says OGL will be addressed soon

The team hired to continue the communication after the other people had been sacked, wish it to be known that they have just been sacked. The apology has been completed in an entirely different style at great expense and at the last minute.

The OGL -- Just What's Going On?

The Torment: Tides of Numenera video game uses the Cypher mechanics, so that might be a reasonable way to see how it plays out without getting a group together. I think it's quite okay, but agree with other that it's definitely not a D&D replacement. "Betting" your pool on something isn't a...

    So how do we respond?

Is this so much different from the old "You're allowed to copy the char sheets on page 33/34?" So you'd just say that your book is CC-BY-SA, expect the artwork and the spell and monster names in Appendix A and B?

Yes, my "quote" was a purely hypothetical scenario, sorry if I didn't make that obvious enough.

Hello, I am lawyer with a PSA: almost everyone is wrong about the OGL and SRD. Clearing up confusion.

Maybe the first generation, who are probably now all on their yachts anyway. In recent years, MS has been doing Open Source a lot themselves. Heck, Oracle does now, too. I thought the RPG world has caught up a bit, but unsurprisingly any industry that prints with ink is still a few decades...
