    D&D 5E Downtime Mechanics?

if 'sudden levelling' bothers you, there's another option. Characters are supposed to 'learn on the job', so instead of letting them choose what they gain when they gain a level, why not let them state what they are working on during this level? PC is made at lvl 1. At the start of level 1, the...

Help prep the evil level 9 wizard's tower

the wizard is gone, and is based on Gargamel? Then you just have to make sure the cat is home. Azrael is always home when the smurfs sneak into Gargamel's house. A shrink trap is definately in order so that azrael can chase the PCs around gargamel's workshop. Use dire tiger stats for Azrael for...

Designing Divine power rules for a new system; ideas?

just a quick idea on how you could use favour points: -most spells do not require you to spend favour points. To be able to cast a divine spell, you must have at least X favour points. X would be directly related to the spells level... maybe require spell level * 10. I haven't played with the...

    D&D 5E Sight/Vision Rules

the way I see it, obscured just makes people unable to see you. There are still signs where you are though: rhustling leaves, stamping combatboots, the fogcloud stirring in a certain place or armour clanking... When you are hiding, you're trying to be silent and not give away your position. You...

    D&D 3E/3.5 need some idea for level 100 3.5/pathfinder

take over the domain of one of the gods? probably a neutral one (in case of a good party), who may do evil but whose domain isn't something evil.

Pathfinder 1E What the heck do Roc eat???

Japanese imported beer in the realms? I approve.

    Spell choice for spellstaff

yes, that's exactly what I meant, although I disagree with storing spellstaff in a spellstaff due to timing issues. When you cast spellstaff from a spellstaff, all checks are done at the start of the spellstaff spell. You pick the spell to store, etcetera. However, at the start of the casting...

    Spell choice for spellstaff

I just remembered...you do not actually need to cast the spell you put in the staff. It need not even be prepared, so having an uncast spellstaff gives you great flexibility, if you suddenly need a spell you didn't prepare.

    Spell choice for spellstaff

spellstaff is far from a nobrainer.. heal is a good choice... but there's some strange stuff going on with spellstaff. You can put in "any spell you can normally cast", you might want to ask your DM about that. Does this include spells cast from scrolls? Does it include spells you can cast...

Does the Cleric of the Sun god Resist Cold or Fire?

in 4e they could be resistant to radiant damage instead.

Using a combat mount that is not an animal companion.

You could pick a warhorse (awakened or not) as a cohort using the leadership feat. That horse would level up. Cohorts from the leadership feat need not be humanoid.

    MurderHobos

I hadn't heard the term yet, but is perfectly accurate to describe a party I played in named "Doomsday". Their real claim to fame was not the monsters they defeated, or the people they rescued. Doomsday: kicked out of every major town in the realms. Including Myth Drannor.

Ice spells/Supernatural attacks underwater, what happens?

although strictly speaking it doesn't freeze water, wall of ice would work just fine to trap characters below an ice surface. Also... wall of ice would be a self-repairing ice-sheet for the duration. "Even when the ice has been broken through, a sheet of frigid air remains. Any creature...

How would you feel about a setting where humans are the only racial option?

sure, I'd play this. As a DM, I'd make various cultures or human races with different stats. to sum up some very different real human cultures that could have very different stat modifiers: inuit, desert nomads, pygmees (you could have a small human race), mongols, japanese and I could go on for...

Pathfinder 1E Rules for catching a Returning Dagger.

yeah, i'd use the rule of cool. If you want to keep the "returning" intact, i.e. it always returns to the thrower, you could rule that the character cannot keep hold of the dagger for long... just enough to direct it back to the thrower with some extra power. "You want your dagger back? Here's...

Is there a Hide from Plants type spell?

I completely agree with homebrew spells, especially when they come from the players. but since this spell is a direct copy of existing spells, isn't overpoweringly good and comes from the dm as an option.. well.. I'd go for it.

Is there a Hide from Plants type spell?

the closest is probably antiplant shell (druid 4), or command plants (druid 4, ranger 3). Maybe (and it's somewhat stretching the spell) you can use speak with plants, but it doesn't give any real protection, and assassin vines are pretty stupid (int -).

Balance question: Replacing Dailies with Encounters

only consequence (which may or may not be horrible) you seem to have missed is some PHB3 psionic classes (ardent, battlemind, psionicist.. maybe more) that have no encounter powers. If you don't allow those classes, or your players don't want to play them this isn't horrible. If they do, you may...

    Bring 'Um Back Alive?

raise dead requires a willing subject. Beholders may be smart enough not to be willing to live a life in capticity, they prefer to stay in their god's domain.
