What TTRPG Is Perfect and Complete In One Volume?

Like someone mentioned upthread perfection might be an impossible ask from anything humanmade. That said I think most games released in one volume works just fine in one volume. Especially in the OSR/NSR sphere I feel this is true since a lot of these are written without any plans for future...

What are you reading in 2024?

2024 has been the year of the Black Company for me. I have read other things too but mainly I've read the first seven books and is about to start the eighth now.

    Did the nerds win?

I feel like I'm walking a knifes edge here because I have played, and enjoyed Champions and Rolemaster (never tried GURPS), but I also like some of the new storygame mechanics. I tried Heart: City Beneath for instance and found it awesome. My favorite edition of D&D is 3.5 but I just started...

Do you prefer your adventures to be episodic or contiguous?

Like others have said it depends on the campaign. Straight preferences though I do prefer contiguous conceptually but find episodic to be more doable with adult life infringing on my game time.

    Did the nerds win?

Defining "nerd" is perhaps something I should have done to begin with. I'm really not talking about being very interested in a "thing", I'm more talking about the kind of nerds that got portrayed in media such as Steve Urkel, Revenge of the nerds, and big ang theory. When I grew up Nerd was a...

    Did the nerds win?

I get what you saying and some have definitely turned to bullying behavior but from personal experience I still feel like nerdy behavior and hobbies get frowned upon by “normal” society and seen as childish. If I’m totally honest myself I could easily describe myself as an insecure nerd but my...

    Did the nerds win?

It sounds like the general feeling is that nerds didn’t win at all. If anything we got conquered and colonized and now we’re just performing old, watered down rituals as entertainment for the tourists. Hyperbole!? You bet! Still, I think this really touches on some of the things that make...

    Did the nerds win?

Dig the reference. And though a bit of a glib answer this is kind of what it feels like. Perhaps "nerd" is something akin to indie, so that when it gets mainstream it stops being what it once was. This is an interesting thought though I've never had a manager or boss or seen a CEO that was...

    Did the nerds win?

I’ve heard several times, in different conversations and read it here on the forums as well, that the nerds won. Nerd is the new cool. But did we? (For this discussion I’m including myself in the term “nerd”) It’s easy to make a case for the prevalence of “nerd culture” in mainstream media...

    Gothic horror classes

Some kind of investigator class could be fitting. I also agree with bedrockgames that physician would be great. Other than that perhaps hunter, occultist and scribe.

    D&D General Let's celebrate D&D having things we don't like! (+)

I don't like D&D being the be all end all of RPGs in the mainstream. But that's good because it makes me all cool and edgy for playing the weird and unknown indie games.

I am surprised I am still excited for Daggerheart

My interest faded fast with Daggerheart. I'm always interested in new RPGs before I know anything about them but as soon as they started revealing things it went down hill fast. The cards was a major turn off (unnecessary components and extra costs) and then you didn't just succeed or fail you...

    Any AI Gamemasters Out There?

That might be a thing to use if you need to playtest a scenario or something though I don't think AI players will ever have the impulsiveness or sheer chaotic energy of human players.

    Any AI Gamemasters Out There?

I personally don't use AI for my gaming and would never think about using an AI GM. I want AI to take away the boring parts of my life, not the fun ones. Getting a group together seems like the harder part anyway so why is no one asking for AI players instead? I could GM in a heartbeat without...
