Does True Seeing see some who is using Hide in Plain Sight

I think too many people are trying to extend the Shadowdancer/Assassin HiPS description past what's written to try to make a more "comprehensive" model of the mechanics. This, to me, is a big mistake. These extensions just create more contention (such as whether "manipulated shadow" is an...

Certain basic feats that should exist (IYO) but don't

The Rogue's skill mastery (not achievable before level 10) coupled with the Savvy Rogue feat comes close. Savvy Rogue lets you take 12 on any skill for which you've selected skill mastery. I guess you'd also need to throw in 4 levels of Warlock to also be able to take 10 (but not 12, alas) on...

    non-core base classes with trapfinding?

No trapfinding in Clerical domains There's a pretty comprehensive list of non-PH Clerical domains at the back of Spell Compendium, and none of these grant trapfinding. I've also checked the Eberron Campaign Setting domains, and there's nothing with trafinding there, either. The closest...

How do I pick up an item in an opponents square

This would work fine for the ogre. If a helpless creature can be subject to a coup de grace (potentially a 1-shot kill), surely they can just as easily be subject to a little non-damaging shifting about. The scary part of this scenario is the helpless condition, not the man- (or rather ogre-)...

Certain basic feats that should exist (IYO) but don't

A feat that will let you split a normal move around any other legal action. For instance: move to a door (partial movement) open the door (move action) walk through the door (rest of movement) It's maddening that highly trained PCs can't go through a door, opening it on the way, in 6 seconds...

How do I pick up an item in an opponents square

I don't see how Tumble could help you with this. Picking up the weapon is a move action, according to the rules. While you're permitted to make two move actions in a round, you can't end up in an occupied square. I don't know of any feat that will let you split actual movement around another...

Trying again: What would it take to get _you_ to use core only?

There are just too many holes that non-core books fill, even if only in bits and pieces. In particular there are expanded skill uses scattered through the Complete and Races of books. Since I like playing skill monkeys, the game just isn't as much fun without all these different ways of doing...

    Frontline Rogue?

I agree with Nifft, and I'd like to add another reason: Uncanny Dodge. Your 2nd level of Barbarian gives you this, which combined with the 4th level Rogue ability automatically promotes you to Improved Uncanny Dodge. Or, you have the option to instead use the Disruptive Attack alternate class...

any reason a Lich couldnt be assassinated (ie: Death Attack)

You're right; I was too hasty and only covered half of the solution with Grave Strike. The correct spell is Spark of Life, which will "tenderize" the lich so that it loses its immunity to Fortitude save effects.

    rogue substitution levels?

Races of Eberron There's a gnome racial substitution section in Races of Eberron; I don't know if it would work for whisper gnomes.

any reason a Lich couldnt be assassinated (ie: Death Attack)

This would have been legal if you had a single level of Cleric and cast Grave Strike (a swift action spell) at the beginning of your attack against the lich.

    Repairing Broken Magic Items

This is true. It's also useful to note that the cost to remake an item is always half the original creation cost.

    Spring Attack and scrolls?

There's no ambiguity about either of those terms. There obviously is ambiguity about "attack action". Here's what the text says: You'll note the conspicuous absense of the phrase "attack action" in this primary definition. In the accompanying table, there's also no mention of "attack action"...

    Spring Attack and scrolls?

I've got to disagree with all of this, for a couple of reasons. There's no "attack action" -- normal or otherwise -- defined in the D&D rules. Attacks may be performed as standard actions, full attack actions, Attacks of Opportunity, or bonus attacks. Full attacks and AoOs don't meet the...

    Include sneak attack w/ Critical?

Telling Blow's function to add sneak attack damage is predicated on making a critical hit. Uncanny Dodge lets you retain your DEX bonus to AC when caught flat-footed or struck by an invisible attacker. Confirming a critical hit is all that's required for Telling Blow, so Uncanny Dodge does...

Bluff to Distract - Hide - Re-enter Combat

No. Initiative is rolled at the start of an encounter. No. Opponents who cannot see you are denied their DEX bonus to AC, and you gain a +2 bonus to attack them. As long as you remain hidden, yes. You need to read the Move between Cover explanation in the Hide skill treatment in Complete...

Speedy character optimization and bonus land speed questions

If you really want to pick up speed, you need Alter Self to bump up your base movement. With Alter Self you lose all your racial bonuses (which, as a human, is nada) and gain the racial traits of the new form. For speed I recommend a Varag (from MM4), which has a base move of 60' and Run and...

Can you "Take 20" to Hide?

This debate has gone on long enough that I'm not going to attempt to reply to any of the previous posts. Instead I'll start with my answer and try to justify it. I don't think you can take 20 for a Hide check. The Hide vs. Spot opposed roll is dependent on the visual aspect presented in the...

    Sleight of Hand Quesiton?

Using a standard action skill in combat usually provokes an Attack of Opportunity. If you incur any damage from the AoO, the skill attempt normally fails. There's a Concentration check exception to avoid failure when damaged from an AoO (mainly used when casting a spell) with DC = 10 + damage...
