What gaming habit of yours has annoyed other players?

Going off-topic. When I only see people once a week, I struggle to turn off general socialization and focus in on the game. Right now, we eat dinner before we start and it is much better. I need a chance to say "Didya see the Captain Marvel trailer?", "LEADER OF NATION sure was as UNIQUE as ever...

    Mearls On D&D's Design Premises/Goals

He's talking about 3.5e and 4e, but I feel like there's a subtext here that screams "LIKE PATHFINDER!" as well. They've definitely honed in on the "a rule for everything" demographic, and PF fans seems quite pleased with their product. Mechanics as king vs story as king are where Paizo and WotC...

D&D 5E What DM flaw has caused you to actually leave a game?

I probably run a less immersive D&D table TBH. I've had players who range from "I am Elfavarius, Keeper of the Evergrove, and this is my lineage..." to "Dude look how many d6 I am about to roll lolz". Most of my current players are some mix of the two.

D&D 5E What DM flaw has caused you to actually leave a game?

This is totally fine. Players can either act as a player as shown [requesting to use a mechanic] or instead act as a character [describing character activity and letting the DM pick the mechanic]. The two are equally valid from my perspective. I am okay with veteran players taking the...

D&D 5E What DM flaw has caused you to actually leave a game?

Everyone has thrown out the big game-killers (railroading, inconsistent rulings, Mary Sue character, etc), so here instead are some specific tales of things DMs have done that got me to quit games... These were public games at game stores, and I did not stay longer than one session: - (D&D 4e)...

    X & O For More Fun

While no one should be uncomfortable or off-put by their leisure activity, I do think that open and mutually respectful conversation about concerns is the best approach for the long term cohesion of a group. The X-card would remain a secondary option for groups where that isn't possible for...

    X & O For More Fun

(Quagmire voice) Awwww yeah, I'm tapping my O-card if you know what I mean. :: Other players frantically tap X-card ::

    Resolutions for the Fantasy Hero

One of the great design choices from 4e was the gods having three bullet points that acted as tenants of that faith. It made RPing a cleric a little bit easier for new players. There's probably some good material there for crafting a heroic ethos.

Despicable Me's Minions are now officially 5e

The stat block is included in Dragon+ issue 21.

Despicable Me's Minions are now officially 5e

Raise your outrage flags on high, friends! If you thought a Magic: The Gathering setting was the end of the world, prepare to be Feebleminded by the presence of a Minions stat block in Dragon+ issue 21. That's right, the babbling yellow blob-humanoids from "Despicable Me", "Despicable Me 2"...

It’s LAUNCH DAY For The Pathfinder 2 Playtest!

"In theory, goblins could live 50 years or more" is my favorite line so far.

Exploring the Wayfinder's Guide to Eberron

This is a great model and given all the ways WotC could have done this wrong, I'm just not following the arguments that this PDF is a raw deal. That said, I think WotC could have done a much better job of explaining what they were doing. When Wayfarer's launched, I had the same knee-jerk...

Eberron It Is? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]

Not sure if others have pointed out this big piece of info (no time to read whole thread at work). Wayfarer's Guide confirmed for eventual print version via DMs Guild Print-on-demand. Check out MikeMearls’s Tweet: https://twitter.com/mikemearls/status/1021493084536881159?s=09

Ravnica: Is This The New D&D Setting? [UPDATED & CONFIRMED!]

    1) I do not think this will not be the only new setting announced in the next 12 months. Everything else points towards older D&D settings as well. 2) James Wyatt will likely be at the helm if the Ravinica book and has my full confidence. 3) Ravinica is a nifty setting that deserves a...

    Everybody Cheats?

I have truely never cheated as a player. I simply don't understand the appeal. As a DM, I have made adjustments on the fly to encounters that were way too easy or hard. But that was correcting an error in my preparation, not something done to out a desire to "win".

Thank You! EN World Still Growing After 20 Years!

As someone who has been here since the beginning (we ran our 3e campaign off of Eric's info before the books came out), it is always great to see both the industry and this site going strong.

RPG Evolution: Do We Still Need "Race" in D&D?

I do not see race in D&D, where it is used in the same sense as "the human race" to be problematic. The fantasy of humans interacting with other intelligent beings is of value. That said, synonyms for race work just as well, and keeping/ditching race as a term would be of little consequence.

Do We Still Need "Oriental Adventures"?

My own long running homebrew setting has its own "oriental" region with nations inspired by Thailand (muay Thai martial arts and sacred elephants), Mongolia (Genghis Khan), China (Three Kingdoms era, Wuxia), and Japan (ninja mythology, classic Japanese yokai, Warring States era shogun/samurai)...

Do We Still Need "Oriental Adventures"?

Everything is optional. That's the beauty of RPGs. Also, I don't think catering fictional settings to real world religious demands is viable or good for the brand. More fundamental branches of any faith are going to find any fictional depictions of gods, monsters, and spells threatening. Every...
