Why Aren't Designers Using The GUMSHOE System?

I was re-reading Night’s Black Agents by Kenneth Hite and Pelgrane Press for a review for this site, when I was stopped in my reading by what I thought was an important question (which I ask in the headline). Why aren’t more designers making games around the Gumshoe system created by Robin Laws...

Talking Art And Determination With Tony DiTerlizzi

I will admit that I wasn't playing D&D/AD&D during the 2e era, I had stopped around '86 and didn't come back until 3e, so my knowledge of who did what, and what lines were available, isn't very good for that time period.

Some Details About Chaosium's Runequest 4th Edition

No game is without flaws, I just found the outright dismissal of RQ3 to be bothersome. All of this said, I've got RQ3, the Big Gold Book, Magic World, Stormbringer, MRQ, OpenQuest, Renaissance and other BRP-ish RPGs on my shelf already. It is going to take a lot from a game to surrplant those.

Some Details About Chaosium's Runequest 4th Edition

My bringing up 1978 was because (from my semi-outside) viewpoint of all of this, it seems like the motivation behind the choice of RQ2 as the basis for the new numberless Runequest was "let's go back to when it was the most popular and go from that." That is a great choice is your only...

Some Details About Chaosium's Runequest 4th Edition

I have no dog in the race of which edition of Runequest is better. I have always had more interest in the Stormbringer line, anyway, because of my being a fan of Moorcock. It is a shame that we will probably never seen another RPG based upon his works. My overall point is that none of this is...

Some Details About Chaosium's Runequest 4th Edition

Don't forget that this means that the market for d100-based products is being further fragmented as well. In addition to the above mentioned Legend from Mongoose, there are also the derived works of OpenQuest and Cakebread & Walton's Renaissance games. Plus now Pete and Loz are going to...

Talking Art And Determination With Tony DiTerlizzi

Tony DiTerlizzi is one of those rare figures who crosses over the usually high walls that separates various gaming fandoms from each other. To fans of AD&D, he is known as the artist who helped to define the Planescape setting. To White Wolf fans he did much of the art for Changeling: The...

Tabletop Gaming Quick Hits: Kickstarters, Legal Battles and Bundles of Holding

That is my goal. That was one of the big items of discussion between Morrus and me when we first started talking about my writing for the site. I've blogged for over a decade now, and I've made a wide variety of contacts, so we will see what happens.
